Finished up the cross member this weekend with the help of my son, who calls this thing the monster truck.

Also wanted to show this trick that I picked up off of someone else's building over on Pirate4x4.com to keep the spacing between your tabs when welding. It worked great and did not have to massage anything after welding. And yes I cleaned the frame before finish welding.

Also, got the rear Chevy 63 springs put in and while I was at it moved the rear axle back a few inches. Will need to trim thh rear fender well a bit but proportionally I think it looks much better.

Still need to mount the rear shackles and my delema is, do I want to mount the shackle hangers under the frame or plate the rear frame so I can mount the bushing through the frame. Figure the difference in ride height between the two is approximately 2".

Anyone put the bushings through the frame in the rear when swapping to 63" springs?

Also, does any one have any recommendations on alternative front springs? I am having zero luck on a set of stock rear springs. Would like to go to something else so I can set the OME springs as a set.

I want to say @boots4 put his shackle hanger through the frame with his 63s. He also used a different type of front spring, but I can't remember what it was.

Yup, I'm running my rear shackle bushing through the frame. I had it higher on the frame on the first round and when I decided to try a steeper shackle angle and shorter shackle I put my current bushing through but at the bottom of the frame. I got rid of the C-channel reinforcement on the inside and boxed in the rear of my frame at the beginning.

On front springs I'm running some really long ones that make packaging a little more challenging but if I were to try a regular spring I'd look for some 51-53" domestic stuff you can get at the junkyard to play around with.

Finished the rear shackle mounts last night and copied what @boots4 did. Bushings are almost in the exact same place but just a touch higher than what he did. Still need to cut all the old mounts off, but should not be that big of an issue.

The boy loves playing in this thing and can't wait to go camping in it.

How about use your old rear springs up front?

Been busy the last couple of weeks but was able to build a shifter mount over the weekend after taking the son out to the Nor Cal Rock Races at Prairie City OHV Park.

Decided to go with the Winters / Art Carr Side Winder shifter. Only problem was if I mounted it straight to the trans tunnel floor, it was too low for my tastes and I wanted it up higher at a more comfortable level.

Started with some dimple die action

On a side note, I am looking for some type of rubber mat that goes from footwell to footwell up front, to cover up the holes in the carpet from where the original shifters were. Does anybody make a rubber mat for the 60s or know a good base material to use. I was thinking stall mat at first but it would be way too thick.

@reevesci has carpet and vinyl kits. Not sure if that is what you would want/be looking for.

Can anyone give ideas on how to make the throttle cable work with the original pedal?
I really like fj62 throttle pedal and cable setups . It is looking really good . I like the idea of 60 rears up front as well.

I ended up picking up a stock throttle cable for the 5.3 from the pick n pull and have been tinkering with that. I think it is going to work and I will get pics up as soon as it is kosher.

Sorry, guys. Things have been moving a little slow lately as I have been pretty busy with family commitments.

However, I was able to get the throttle cable all figured out. I am using a stock throttle cable from a suburban with a 5.3 that I got from the picknpull. Just had to drill a new hole in the firewall and make a slight modification to the pedal. Ended up working out great. Also picked up a FJ62 brake pedal from a member on the board and got that swapped in.

Decided to get the radiator mounts figured out over the weekend, but decided that I wanted to dimple die the brackets so I had to make a dimple die station under my welding table as space is limited in a two car garage that I have to share with the wife's minivan.

Currently the plan of attack is to get all the fab work out of the way before I start plumbing and wiring as it is easier to plumb and wire around things to fab around heat sensitive items. Fab work left is just to finish the radiator mount and fan shroud for the 2-speed Volvo fan that I am going to run. I ran the same fan in my 1st gen and had great luck with it.

Also need to start mocking up the exhaust but I am still waiting on my FJ60 driveline flanges so I can see where the drivelines are going to roughly be. I ordered them almost 8 weeks ago and still have not gotten them, even after multiple calls.....

Man, look at all that HP you're adding! Seriously those look great and I like how you've used the garage space to get more tools in there.
