Rear side panel storage compartments, what are you storing in them?

On the spare tire is too obvious. They look there. The heavy gauge of an 80 series sheet metal provides better protection from x ray. Or so I hear...

Nope not at the border. I cross many times a year and at least once a year I see someone go down. They have lots of strange tools these days. The dogs are what I see taking them down. Dog goes around the vehicle and sits, they move the dog to the side for a second, makes another round the opposite way and sits in the same, agent gives the look to the booth agent, other agents gather closer, can you step out of the vehicle, and done

I wouldn't be dumb enough to try to smuggle it across. I'd just smoke it all before I cross the border! :smokin:

Driver's side has OEM jack, spare belts, used to have a roll of small and large trash bags, little LiPo jump pack in a canvas pouch and used to have a roll of TP. I use the underside of my attic rack for most of this stuff now. Been thinking about trying to fashion a scabbard for a lever action rifle but haven't had that wall off yet. Whatever you do, make sure you don't let anything break the marker light mount or the bulb will come 1/2 way out and melt the plastic making the bulb impossible to ever snap back in again.
Passenger has stereo amplifier and relays, fuses and battery extension terminals for all my accessory 12v needs.

Both my rear marker light housings were in this state when I got the truck. I replaced the marker bulbs with LEDs and set the socket in place in the housing using hot glue to replace the clips where it should have snapped in. Two years later and they still work great and look normal from outside the truck.

I'm too cheap to buy one of the other tailgate lids so I made my own. Right side is 2- 10" subs, got tired of a box taking up so much room sliding around. Left is some more recovery and small stuff..
This is always in there, almost Phil's when loaded but spare on the 4x4Labs.
Looking for some trashed 3rd row to make a rack that can pop right in/out. Sleeping is in the Simpson III.
Wish list is a wing window for driver side. I'll trust the pro on that though. someday

I have the 'flexitank' water bladder fitted there. My LC 80 thread.

I read up on them and found there were three main criticisms. They were sloshing noise, the OE plastic trim piece bulging under the weight, and keeping it clean.

So, after fitting the bladder and swapped the OE plastic panel with thin ply, this was covered in speaker box material and looks fine. So that's the bulging of the OE panel sorted, it also seems the wood and material reduces the sound of water sloshing as well. There is no sloshing when the tank is full anyway but when the level is lower the wood and covering material has stopped any sound reaching me, although the rear most in the third row have mentioned it. Now to keeping the water clean, living in Spain the temps are good for nasty stuff to form in there so I have checked into the use of bleach.

There is a formula for adding bleach to maintain healthy clean drinking water. When being used as a DD it full of water with double the recommended amount of bleach needed to maintain clean drinking water, this stops anything from growing in there. This is more for a radiator repair/topping up the washer bottle if on a particularly dirty trail and washing hands than drinking. When going on the trail it is drained and refilled with fresh water, this is normally for the dog and again makes a great reserve for emergencies. After the flush and fill for the trail the water will taste fine if you are broken down in the middle of nowhere. in 40+C degree heat.

regards

Dave
