I am nearly done putting the transmission and transfer case back into my 78. Did some research here and found that the nut that holds the parking brake drum area on is a stake type and that it should only be used once. Wondering if there is any alternatives to the typical cruiser parts sites or the dealership for this. My local Toyota dealership has never had a single 40 part in stock when I needed it. I’m sure I could find the right thread/pitch, but want to make sure it has some sort of way to keep it on and secure. Beyond that, I’m wondering if the washer is meant to be reused or not. Here are some pictures of the one I currently have. Looks grooved and a bit mangled to me, but I only found that Cruiser Parts sells used ones as well because it appears to be a discontinued part. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have looked on both their sites and like I said, SOR only sells used washers and CO doesn’t sell them at all from what I can find. Another confusing part is that there appears to be two different part possibilities for the stake nut. Of these two, which is correct for the nut that holds on the parking brake drum and eventually gets covered by the driveshaft?

Buy the OEM Nut , Tourque it per the FSM , measure pre-load per the FSM , then stake the New one

I add toyota Orange FIPG 00295-01281 to All my flanges & nuts , prevents a splines-Leak

done Correctly

I ended up finding a good exploded view with part numbers and got all of the little parts I should need to finish the whole project from toyotapartsdeal. Now I once again play the waiting game.

Nut is 90179-20061
Large Washer is 90201-20479
Shim if needed is 90564-21143

the Orange FIPG 00295-01281 , Is for anything Gear Oil , ATF & Grease Related such as MOLY for Birfields

The Black FIPG 00295-00103 ( Formally 00295-00102 ) Is for anything Engine Oil / Motor Oil & Cooling System / Antifreeze Related ( This applies to Full Strength Factory RED Fluid / Long Life Coolant )

There is a Another Black Sealer out there now 08826-00100 Seal Packing 1282B , Its for use with Super Long life Coolant ,
The 50/50 Pre-Diluted Pink'ish formula

Thats at least how i understand the Seal Packing 1282B

it also Tacks Up much faster the 00295-00103 does

@Splangy Might have some input to this summery

Fwiw we stock the pinion/t-case flange washers along with all the nuts. All OE and/or Japanese. We also stock all the FIPF options from Toyota or AISIN too. Give us a shout if you need a washer.

Resurrecting this for some details. How is the packing applied? Once the Parking Brake drum is installed, does the packing go on the Washer and then the washer installed and the nut secured to create the seal? Or is this applied between the Washer and the Nut?
