Hi All, I’m in the middle of a seat swap that will more than likely require me to lose the rear heater. I tried putting in the seat on the tabs on the floor and it sits up pretty high. I’m 5’10” and my head has less than an inch of clearance.

I’ve chatted with @NookShneer and he has been super helpful. I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions on these questions.

I would like to keep the heater so I’m going to move it to the center console area. For now I’m planning on capping the lines off under the cruiser with 1/2 inch heater line. Is there a way to do this without pouring a bunch of coolant out? I’m looking for some tricks on this.

As far as moving the heater goes, mostly I’ve seen people use 62 heaters. Is there a reason I should go this route over my current 60 heaters? More than likely I’ll need to go with a tuffy or smitty console and modify. Let me know if you have any suggestions on this too. Thanks a bunch for your help.

I don't have an answer, but a question. Why not just remove it from the system all together? Do you use it regularly? Will it even in the 62 location without more modifications?

@Beams37 i forgot to mention is gets waaaay cold here. -30 at my house this morning! I use the cruiser lots in fringe seasons for hunting/fishing and the kids use that heater a fair amount when cold. I have considered the removal though.

Got it. That sounds awful. LOL

Unless someone has some high speed way of doing it, I think you're going to lose a bunch of coolant. Could you "pinch off" the lines somewhere and reduce coolant loss?

I've done the delete, but coldest it gets here is in the 20s rarely. There is a post a few years ago I did on it with pictures. You end up eliminating 16 or so connections with clamps. It made sense for me. You should be able to clamp off both lines and bypass the heater all together for the easy fast approach.
It's a thread titled " fj60 rear heater delete."

Thanks for that. I think I read that post the other night. I’m going to attempt to clamp off the hoses. Ultimately, I want to reinstall the heater but between the seats like a 62. I probably won’t get to that right away. Maybe this is the best time to just rip the bandaide off and plumb the heater in while everything is out. Thanks again

I always try to minimize messing with coolant, after dumping it all twice already.🤣

Yeah I think I’m scared from many battles with a leaking timing cover. If it weren’t for draining the coolant that job would not be too bad. When you replace the bottom lines do you lose all/most of the coolant like a radiator removal would?

Not really. The front heater core is in the dash. If you were to use these on the lines that pop off the hard lines on the PS frame that run over to the rear heater core you would have just what is in the rear core and lines coming out. Maybe 1 Quart or 1 Liter for the rest of the world.

they make some pliers to clamp hoses like coolant lines....not crazy money.

I know the console heater on my BJ74 works really well. I removed my under seat heater on my
60. No reason why a console heater can’t be mounted there and just reroute the underbody lines.
Do you have the console heater?

I was planning on rerouting the heater lines to the center console and then either using a 62 heater (which I would need to acquire) or going with my current 60 heater. The other option would be a utv heater. I like what @NookShneer did with his .
