rear frame holes question

I am building sliders and found two factory holes in the driver side frame about three inches back from the rear body mount.. problem is.. those holes are not there on the passenger side. I guess I am going to drill two identical holes on the passenger side to run my supports to but I am wondering it other 55's are like this or if the guy drilling the passenger side holes on the assembly line was sleeping the day my pig came by.... anyone?

For those with sliders, how did you run supports to the frame? I don't want to weld to the frame and really don't feel great about drilling holes but I have to make a decision.

I welded to it. Although I have a beater trail rig and I dont care to much. I hit them with a sledge though and they didnt budge so they are definitely strong.

Thanks Clemson... mine is a beater trailtruck too so I may go that route... are the holes there on the passenger side?

my 73 doesn't have holes on either side except for the big rectangular hole.

Well I have spent about 10-20 hrs sitting under the back of the cruiser between my last couple projects and I havent noticed any. Although I have noticed that at the end of the frame it isnt boxed any more starting about a foot past the rear wheels. Which didn't make any sense why not just box it the whole way. I'll probably box it before I add a hitch.

Here are pics of what I am asking about, driver side has the two holes... passenger does not... is this consistent with other 55's?

i have body mounted sliders, no frame in the mix.

How do those sliders protect you? If you put a reasonable amount of weight on them the panels they are attached to will just crunch in. For them to hold much weight they need to be attatched to the frame or a roll cage or something.

i dont know clemson, the whole body of the rig is tied together now from front to back. i have rested hit bumped gouged scratched dented and dinged every inch of my rig so i dont really know how much good they do, but the doors still open

Sounds good to me Rhino. They must connect back in at some point through other things they are connected to. Arent sliders supposed to extend out further then the tires though keep the car from resting on the tires as well as protect the body panels.

i have rested the whole pig on them with tires in the air, i built them specifically to keep the doors functional and they are doing a great job. i have the equivalent of all three pillars tied together.

thansk lemon... seems mine is an oddball and maybe a PO drilled the holes... I'll mount the sliders somehow! seems many ways work...

is it preferable to weld to the frame or drill holes? Anyone?

lots of folks have welded and no probs that i have ever heard about, alot of talk about a plate welded to the frame in a sort of diamond shape rather than vertical welds, but i also know of a whole lotta cages and such with the tubes welded right on the frame. either way i guess it all come down the the quality of weld.
