Need some help with this one please. Just picked up (3 weeks ago) a 72 FJ40 with SOR roll bar. Wife want's a bench seat in the back and ordered the CCOT one. It is really nice but we want 3 point harness back there. Who has installed some? What manufacturer? How did you connect them? I looked around using the search but didn't really find exactly what I was looking for. Pictures would be great!!

Hmmmm. How hard did you look

I run a bench in the rear with corbeau seat belts works out nice keep the passengers nice and snug

3 point seat belts in the back are going to be tricky. Keep in mind, that an improperly position seat belt, can actually be very dangerous in a severe accident. There is also the issue with anchoring seat belts to the hard top or roll bar and making sure any anchor points are away from the passengers heads in the event of an accident.

You might be better off putting a 5 point harness seat belt in the back, and making sure you have anchor points that avoid pulling the shoulders down in an accident. The shoulder harness' anchor points should be above the shoulder level of the passenger, and the bottom anchor points should be below the passenger's lap center point. In addition, you may need to reinforce the tub below any newly created anchor points, to prevent them from being pulled out in a bad accident.

why not 4 point harnesses?

You can mount a swing out bar for the shoulder mounts, or you can run the brackets to the floor.

the kids will love them vs a 3 point that chokes their neck

Proper mounts must mount to a bar above the shoulders or it will compress the spine on impact. You can mount to the floor as long as there is a bar that they can run up and around that is even with the headrest or so.

Depending on the placement of your seat and the roll cage, you cant run CCOT 3 points from the cage. You will just need the belt receivers mounter to the center of the floor so they can come through the seat. I would reinforce there with flatbar under the tub to keep from ripping them out of the floor.

If it is any help, a 4 point will be much sfer in a rollover, where a 3 point would probably allow a kid to slide out....think about what is in a child car seat.

Running to the floor is questionable. I did it in my cj8 probably ok for little kids, but not so if there shoulder go above the seat back. They really should be attached to a point above the shoulders and come down at an angle. That way in an accident the seat belt is stopping you from going forward, where attached to the floor if could let you go forward while crunching you down.

I will mount them above the shoulders in my fj40 and be going back to fix them in my cj8 when I refresh it. there are some nice double shoulder options available, get them that buckle like a seat belt, not like the racing harnesses. Mine the shoulder straps go to each side of the lap belt before the buckle. They are real easy to put on. A friend did the racing ones where you have to attach the lap and shoulder belts all at the same time, and it was so difficult his kids just used the lap part. Knowing now about the angle that was probably better anyway.

Mine are like these, very happy with them, so are the people who used them

Edit
here is a link, wesco has a lot of good options weather going to the floor or other.

Excellent feedback and ideas. Honestly I thought the 3 point would be easier on the kids. I would prefer to have 4 point. I really like the idea of placing a bar behind the seat and then mounting to the floor. Not sure how that would affect the fold and tumble space though.....

Also thanks for the reminder to reinforce the mounting points.

Keep the ideas coming in if you got em!

I can snap some pics of my setup. Problem make it easy on you as far as how to mount etc

I am in the process of putting seat belts in the back for my kids bench seat and would love to see some pics of others setups.

I've had the little passengers seat in the back of my 42 for over 4 years and am quite happy with it. I can say it fits 2 car seats well. The attached 3 point harnesses are great. My nearly 3 year old could sit safely back there without her car seat but I like the added protection of the car seat.

It's grey vinyl very close to my stock front seats. Will upload some detailed pics when I get a chance. Glad I bought it 4 years ago...$200 cheaper back then.

Negatives other than price are it's a pain to remove (mine's bolted to the floor). If putting it on top of drawers you might be able to rig some quick release mechanism. Also no fold and tumble so what little storage you had before is now nonexistent. The back of mine is a carpet material so with the top off it wouldn't shed water well.

I have the 3 point like pictured above, they are mounted to the floor which is supported. I also want to add a bar above shoulder level. If you are concerned with fold and tumble space, make a bar that is removeable, they have the really nince steel clamps to mount it to the cage so they can be removed, not a quick process, but sturdy and has options.

The base unit is a component of our FJ Cruiser Drawer system...better pictures here

Its funny that you posted on this as I have been working on the seat and drawer unit while my FJ40 is getting the roll bar painted and some other odds and ends.

The base unit is over at Linex getting a coating to add even more rigidity, besides that old prototype is looking pretty scratched up..should have some more pictures soon.

I've been wondering how to do a 3 point (or other multi-point) seat belt setup with my Con-Ferr Deluxe bench seat with the storage under the seat and in the back of it.

I was thinking of just running a long lap belt :)
