I believe I have solved the riddle. At least for this build and what I am trying to achieve.
80 steering arms won’t work, stud pattern is to large on the knuckle. The pin for the knuckle though is the same size. The trunnion bearings are also larger.
This is the same for 76/78/79 as well accept one thing. The stud pattern for the steering arm on the knuckle is a match to the older 70-series.
So I bought and am using 1999+ 70 steering arms and trunnion bearings on my axle. I am not 100% sure until I get the arms and bearings but I believe all I need to do is machine the bottom of the knuckle ball on the housing to accept the large bearing. Roughly 5mm bigger.
I won’t be keeping the crossover steering.
80-series steering arm pin.
70-series steering arm pin.
70 series trunnion bearing size.
80-series (and I believe 76/78/79) trunnion bearing size.
5mm to machine out of the knuckle ball to accept the larger bearings should be zero issues. This solves steering to panhard issues since I will be setting this up just like any other coil sprung 70.
Cheers
