Thanks to alia176 I have started the reconditioning of my A/C system. His posts here on MUD are a real help. I got my evaporator out with no problem in about 15 minutes.
The evaporator core is so nasty! Not just leaves and debris, but coated with an oily lint like substance. I have no idea how air passed through it at all.
I am currently soaking the core in boiling hot water and dawn dish soap to loosen the crap. I have blown the core out twice with compressed air and this process seems to be SLOWLY getting rid of all of the crud.
FYI the core is laying down so the inlet and outlet are above water. I have been extremely careful to not let any water inside the core. Openings are capped and taped.
The core is very fragile. Be patient.

Everything is cleaned as well as I could. If money was no object I would replace the evaporator. The greasy lint mess was a PITA to remove. Super hot water, dawn detergent and compressed air got most of the mess. After everything was back together I ran the blower fan and it smells 1000% better than before. Increased air flow too. New expansion valve and receiver/dryer also installed. All that remains is a good leak test and recharge.

55.4 degree differential! THAT'S WHAT I'M
TALKING ABOUT! This pic was taken at 6:40 am, the outside temp was already 100 degrees.
We'll see how well the A/C works when I get in the car after work. It's typically 130 degrees in the car at 5:00 pm.

UPDATE:
When I got in the car at 5pm the ambient temperature was 107. I have a digital thermometer in an air vent. Here are the pics of the temp when I got in the car and after driving for 25 minutes. Needless to say I am very pleased with the results.

So that solved the intermittent ac problem huh? Looks like i got some work to do. Thx for the info

Everything A-OK now. In hindsight I might have replaced the evaporator with a new aftermarket one. I've seen some on eBay for as little as $60-70 shipped. New would offer better flow and no musty odor. I spent HOURS cleaning mine.

Pump rebuild was no problem but don't be fooled by the small o-ring on the low pressure side hose/pipe connection. After three attempts I think I finally have it installed correctly and leak-free. I nicked the o-ring on the first attempt.

Well I finally got around to repairing my screwup. (It only took me 5 months!) Thank God I have a EWD for my cruiser. It was invaluable for this repair. It showed me right where the IE1 connector was and also had the complete wiring diagram. I found the bad wire and I was able to fish a replacement wire down the driver's a-pillar. Soldered and heatshrinked. Good as new.

I got my LED interior lights from Pfran and installed them immediately. All I can say is WOW! Best mod ever. Perfect business transaction. Inexpensive. Quick/easy to install. Huge difference in lighting. If you don't have them... Get some. I could do open heart surgery in the back seat now!

Hey I haven't found too much information regarding the TJM steering stabilizer install, so I was hoping you could help me out. When installing the TJM steering stabilizer, did it seat all the way? Meaning, did the "ball joint" side of the hardware you got with the steering stabilizer sit flush with the mounting surface on both the triangle bracket and mounting surface on the steering rod?

beautiful rig. But what lift did you go with? I saw the picture of the transaction, but you never specified if you went with the light duty or heavy duty TJM kit. how does it look with 35" tires on it?
