So, typically, one project begets another...![]()
Was this the $600 with tools one?So they said they would take $300 for the whole setup minus the tools. I’m trying to decide if I should drive 2.5hrs one way to get it. I actually was looking for a large vintage box even before seeing yours. It’s the ladies dads and he’s selling it. So probably one owner for whatever that’s worth.
I’ll probably try to go next week. I want to replace my HD tool chest.

I've been giving tools to my son for a few years now. I’ll start with a daughter in a few years. Was this the $600 with tools one?
One owner, probably some good tools though, plus the gift kids tools routine...
Make it a daddy-kids trip to go get it!.
Being uninvolved I'd consider negotiating with tools, but you know your situation.![]()
$300 for the stack is a good (possibly great) deal. I paid $250 for just the 3 drawer middle box, and drove 5 hours (each way) to get it. I've already got a couple of the 10 drawer uppers, but I certainly wouldn't mind locating another 3 drawer + bay lower. Here's one I'm debating on getting, and it's a three hour drive for me:So they said they would take $300 for the whole setup minus the tools. I've seen those before. They are probably from the early/mid 60's? Not sure. But that particular logo design seems to have been used on a lot of cases for power tools. Remember when tools came with metal cases? Would be interesting to see what that held.@Hack I thought you might appreciate this. I’ve never seen a box like this one. View attachment 3276644
Cool. I talked with the owner who seems to be mid to late 70’s. He has had them for ten years and he got them because they belonged to his stepdad he said. He says all the drawers work fine, but he just can’t do any work anymore so better to just sell. They were curious as to why I would drive so far for something so old. Tool Box
Would like to have seen if the middle box has the logo, and if all three have the locks and keys. If they have the locks, you can get keys made, because there are 'codes' (generally will start wit LL followed by 2-3 numbers). My locksmith charges $20 to decode, and $3.50 to cut a key, so that should be factored in, if you decide to get them and keep them locked. But for home use, I have never locked a toolbox. My son, on the other hand, always locks his up.
Just remember, that these boxes all have the 'friction slides'. I.E.: Not ball bearing. After cleaning them up (Purple Power or SuperClean), I use a spray on Teflon lubricant. Although the 'official' Craftsman user's manual says to use basically paraffin. Which might work good too.
Tell her, have a quiet day,. Bubble bath, wine, music, slippers...I've been giving tools to my son for a few years now. I’ll start with a daughter in a few years.
Good idea to make it a family trip. Just gotta figure out what to tell my bride.![]()
Probably some ultra high temp exhaust header ceramic paint. Even then, you'll probably have to re-do it every year.So now the question is what can I treat it with so that it doesn't rust as an outdoor stove.. it's cast iron and took me in four teenagers to haul it out of the basement so I don't know 4 or 500 lb?.![]()
That could work, but put book in place of bubble bath and whisky in place of wine. I’ve got a rare bird.Tell her, have a quiet day,. Bubble bath, wine, music, slippers...

Great score, and the 'bonus' vintage t-wrench is cool!Just picked up a new project and a cool tool. Chatted with the couple for a bit. They were fun to talk with. View attachment 3278637View attachment 3278639View attachment 3278641
Love it!! Do the YouTube, just find a code name.I've re-named my basement shop: The Cave Of Craftsman. That loud noise you all heard, was the sound of my wife's eyes rolling back...
Also thinking about starting a YouTube channel: Chasing Classic Craftsmans. But I'd probably get sued by Wayne Carini and Motor Trend, for lifting their name.
Anyway, the monkey was hurting, so I battled an hour of early morning rush hour traffic to be one of the first at an estate sale. I was #31. Luckily, there were only a couple of men in the lead group, and the women didn't lool like they were buying 50 year old tool boxes.

1970 upper (has the trunk handles, 1 key, and open logo)
1975 lower (no key, but lock is there)
This one is going directly to The Cave Of Craftsman, as it only needs a little wiping down. I'll cut new drawer liners for it, the previous (and I assume deceased) owner used red felt. So the insides are in really nice condition. All four casters are in very good condition. It's a keeper.
