Here’s what I’ve been really working on lately. The plan is to build a cabin with all that lumber.

Glad to see the house is still standing. Glad you got it down safely.

Had the outer wood degraded much? The heart looks good..
Wood is in great shape and will make some valuable lumber for sure. Loaded last of the logs over weekend and took them to the milling site.

I’m looking at going with the flat utility Baja Rack. I got an email back from Baja Rack that they can still provide a Baja Rack for the 60 even though it’s been discontinued.

This is the Baja Rack but on the 80s series

I think the 80 series one would fit without issue. The legs are adjustable for width.

Baja Rack said that there is a difference between the 80 and 60. I think the biggest difference is the height of the roof.

Holset HX30-super install yesterday with @boots4. The HX30 I had on since the swap began had the wastegate blocked off as it was missing the actuator.

Removing the HX-30. Notice the copper wire ran to the wastegate to keep it closed. With my HX-30 I was able to build up to 28psi of boost.

The awesome part about the exhaust side of the turbo was everything is the same size so the custom exhaust flange worked with the down pipe and the Mormon flanges.

One bolt broke removing the tail piece from the HX-30 so we were pretty much committed…
The HX30-super has a flanges oil feed adapter that bolts on to the housing vs a threaded hole.
I bought the flanges adapter and feeder line kit.
Only problem was that it’s a straight fitting off the turbo not a 90 elbow. The braided hose is not flexible enough so needed to source a 90. Another change was rotating the housing on the cold air side of the turbo. The wastegate actuator was in the way. Needed to rotate from 9 o’clock on the HX-30 to 7 o’clock on the HX-30 super. Also the compressor discharge pipe is larger than the HX-30. Remember to order the 90 and V-band before trying to install.
This meant cutting the down pipe between the turbo and inter cooler.

After cutting and fitting the down pipe and turbo 90.

The compressor turbo 90 is 3” while the down pipe is 2.5”.

Next was sourcing the 90 degree fitting that would connect the braided oil feeder tube to the flanged adapter at the top of the turbo.

With the turbo out of the way it was a perfect time to remove a freeze plug and get the block heater installed.

We ended up finding the 90 degree fitting a NAPA. Next was the line going into the oil housing. The fitting was metric and nobody had anything that would work on a Saturday. We decided to block the rear hole and only use the front as the hardware store had fittings for that.
Needed a 1/4” brass tee and a short nipple. Needed to find a 12MM bolt to plug the hole.

Found a short 12MM bolt which we shortened to length of the threads of the 90 degree fitting.
Installed the bolt with a gasket to block the hole. Plumbed the turbo feeder line with tee for oil pressure sensor. Custom made a boot for the line to the intercooler until I can get the right one from Frozen Boost. Plumbed in the 4”x3” reducing boot on the front of turbo shortened a 3” 90 Mike had and got the air filter installed.
Got coolant back in the radiator and it was time to test drive.

Drove it just down the street but noticed quicker response. Drove home and really noticed more power even with the wastegate opening at the factory setting of 20 psi. Biggest power increase was in 3rd gear climbing my hill home. Next will be a tuning session. Was an enjoyable work day again Mike.

Nice work. I have been thinking about my turbo upgrade and inter cooler install. I am leaning towards a custom exhaust manifold and was hoping to find an exhaust flange precut but no one is making them anymore. I thought about doing a chopped 6bt but it won't put my turbo where I want it..
Keep it up, I need the inspiration!

Bryan has a 6BT manifold I saw today in his garage. You and fam coming up for Thanksgiving?

I'm stoked for you that you got a super hx30! It's a great turbo. Is that air filter setup new for you or did you have that open element style with your old turbo?

Edit: also I have a few different manifolds here if you want pics of some different options. I'm running a chopped 24v manifold right now.

Looks like our last minute fusible link fix is working. One of the vendors on here sells new ones but I can't remember which one. Perhaps someone else does and can chime in.

@GLTHFJ60, Do you remember the pump settings you liked to run with the super? I know it's probably in your thread but maybe you could share here too the basics of what you liked. Starwheel, AFC spring tension, full power screw stuff. That could give us a jump start on tuning on Jason's rig. Weren't you doing 30+psi?
