Day 102

I finally got back to work on my bumper project. I started off by capping off the ends of the 3 X 5 X 0.25 rectangular tube with a 45 degree angles.

Switched gears a little and finally finished up all the body and prep work for the hood, doors, windshield, fenders, aprons and some miscellaneous parts. Now they are all finally ready for some color.

After 1 coat of sealer, 4 coats of color and 2 coats of clear.

you can definitely lay down some nice paint. looks very nice. i love that color. should look real nice when its all together.

i'm curious why you decided to paint the door hinges on the doors when you painted the hood and windshield hinges separate?

@*miker, regarding the painting of the fasteners. Well I tried to paint everything as close to factory as possible. Some things were just too large to be fully assembled and painted for my booth. In long run it worked out that all the hex heads were painted and all the Philips heads were not (the Philips heads were all stainless steel).

Next I applied some U-pole Raptor on the inside of the hood, fenders and aprons.

I put the sending unit in the gas tank and hooked up all the lines. Then fabricated the beginnings of a stainless steel filler neck. Lastly, installed the mid rear tub body mount spacer, which I made it from some ¾ inch flat stock.

I installed the fenders, aprons and bib using some fender welting rubber. I’m surprised it didn’t come like this way from the factory! The hood went on next.
