4x4 concepts in Australia makes a gauge pod. An HzJ75 one should work as both have fold down windscreens

I found the altimeter dash cover for $65 online new. I'll experiment with it. I'm pretty sure if I can make a nice faceplate for the gauges and it should be pretty easy to mount on my dash. My HZJ did not come with the OEM altimeter, so this thing should do the trick.

Did your Safari turbo kit arrive?

Ummmm....NO!

Still waiting.....it hasn't been sitting in box in garage for a while, now.

I opt'ed for the block return....

There are a few things in life I'd prefer option-less, mostly those where the 'best' information on the 'best' way to do is limited to forums.

there are about a million gauge choices. I've looked through everything on amazon and ebay and nothing is speaking to me.

As have I, venturing into MR2 forums, searching vintage Yazaki.
The more 'mature' tuner crowd have a few adaptations that fit visually, but not physically.

How 'bout a race?

Let's see which of us can fit a HU with video inputs that the sensors feed to, whoever wins granted eternal bragging rights.

If anyone out there has an OEM one please PM me.

I may, Sol. I don't recall if parts truck was equipped with one, or what color or is, but if it's a match, you're more than welcome to. I'll check in a few hours.

As others have said, Joe'd be a good resource for, if no others result, and currently abroad. :)

All I need is the cover (part # 55403-90K00-13) in blue/gray.

The "K" is symbolic of time kill, be it NA or JP.

Yes, there's some, but not as much as the Internet would lead to believe.

I can make the face plate for the gauges.

Make two!!

it would require a ton of fabrication to fit and do clean.

Quite the motivational ender and my thanks to you for issuing the challenge.

Now we can sit back, wait and watch the magic work, because this boy'z gots skillz.

Awesome... thank you very much. I just did a little searching and it looks like the cover is available via dealers in North America. All I need is the cover (part # 55403-90K00-13) in blue/gray. I can make the face plate for the gauges. I'll do a little more digging and see what I can come up with. Thank YOU again for the info. Super helpful.

That part number is a "non-import part". No dealer in the US is going to touch that with any length of pole. :(

Those altimeter pods sit on a dash pad with a recess but you can still get them to fit and look ok mounted on a standard dash pad, that's what I did with mine until I found the proper dash pad for it :)

Nice use of the Quote functionality Chris. :flipoff2: Thanks for checking the parts truck. I already have more project ideas for this thing... don't need any additional challenges... alla intercooler. If I make a face plate I'll see about getting them cut by a local friend with a waterjet. Need to source the gauge pod first. I'm half tempted to tear the one of of the FJ Cruiser, gut it and use it in the 70. The one in the FJC is blocked by the roll cage cross bar, so it's useless anyway.

Make three!!! :grinpimp:

Will do... :)

Sure enough the fine folks at the dealer cancelled the order and refunded my money first thing this morning... crap! Thanks Onur... kind of a bummer that they won't sell them.

Thanks for that picture. I wondered if they mounted on a different dash pad. Seems like some strategic modifications to the cover would be required to make it fit.

You will have to fab up a mount for the pod cover if you buy a new one. I think. Maybe it comes with a mount?

Making a couple of mounting brackets should be pretty easy. Drilling a hole in the top of the dash is probably going to be necessary as well.

You guys have seen this, right? Post #514

What did you do on your 70 series today?

I inquired with the outfit that did it for @fireball and gauge mounting is limited by depth of gauges. You've got less than 3" to work with in this configuration. My Isspro pyro and boost are >3" so I'm stuck mounting them flat.

Also, he charges a lot more than it would cost to do a simple flat faceplate.

If you use your stock dash pad without the recess and make your own base the pod cover will fit fine it sits on the outside of the recess its only the base that fits inside the recess, I managed to get 2x autometer 2 5/8" gauges and a smaller one (2" I think) between them, it was a pretty tight fit but they fitted in there ok

That looks slick. Giving me some ideas for how to mount the gauges. Wonder if a dimple die pressed into some sheet metal would give me enough space... might have to play with it a little to see what I can come up with...

I have 3x ISSPRO gauges that are 2.125" in diameter on the way. I like the way that yours looks. Thank you for posting. All the posts are super helpful for ideas on how to make this work. I'm definite now on the hunt for the altimeter cover.

I'll let you know when one of the hood covers I ordered shows up. I have 2 in bound. :) Hoping one of them makes it eventually...

I had the 3" exhaust installed today and what a difference. Even though I haven't touched the fuel settings on the truck since installing the turbo, it feels like a completely different truck after the exhaust upgrade. I can actually hear the turbo spinning up, where before you could barely hear it. Throttle response is much better... and it now sounds like a diesel. :D

The Safari dump pipe tapers down at the end where it mates up to the stock exhaust. They cut the end off, re-flanged it to 3"... eventually I will paint the exhaust black.

I had them bring the tail pipe out in the stock location. I don't plan on wheeling this things very hard, so hopefully it doesn't get smashed.

What a difference over the stock exhaust and sounds great.

I went the aeroturbine 3" route myself. The improvement in sound and performance is amazing. Freeing up the exhaust makes a world of difference with these diesels.

Our tale pipe also runs straight out the back with numerous deserts trips and other various wheels trips over the last 5 years I haven't crushed it...yet.
