Meanie's Shakedown Run at Clayton, OK

Matthew was not able to come home from BAYLOR U. for the trip to Clayton, OK; however, I loaded up Meanie & Big Tex and met Todd Yonkman, Brian Little, and Charles Owens in Clayton for the weekend.

My truck laid down on me Thursday so I had to drive in to Dallas & rent a 1-ton diesel w/ a gooseneck hitch to hook up my trailer. I made it to Clayton around 3:45 p.m. Friday. The other guys had been wheelin' Freelings that day. It was muddy both Friday & Saturday due to the rains the prior to week.

I wheeled Meanie Thursday afternoon and Friday 1/2 day. It was a MAJOR upgrade from the old Meanie!

Meanie is MUCH lighter than Big Tex and has almost the exact same clearance. It is very light in the rear and may need a winch back there to keep the air shocks from unloading when going down a steep hill. I did take Meanie up the very top of BlackSheep and it did great. No winching needed.

Messed up a rear drive-line pretty good but have already installed a new Tom Woods rear driveshaft. Sent in the messed up one to have Woods redo it and send me out a spare.

I am very pleased and I know Matthew can't wait until LSLC Roundup in a couple of weeks to try her out. I will post up pics this evening. They are on the home PC.

is there shots of this trail called "resolution"? or a write up of what its like.

Russell....I highly recommend the rear winch. It is extremely helpful to control the ride height of the rear. I think it would be especially critical with the air shocks.

Resolution is one of those trails that is so challenging no one seems to have time to take photographs. Also last year we ran it at night, so the cameras stayed at home. There are a few pics of parts of Resolution in the following threads (Mace should have some more):

Sounds like Meanie is going to be a fun rig to see work in person. I'm sure Matt is counting down the days to round-up.
When are you planning on arriving? I'm hoping to be able to make the drive in one day.

Talk to you soon,
Peter

What might the starting price be for one of these.. so I can start saving?

Not as much as one might think. It's always cheaper to have Proffitt's build the right the first time, than to build it over time. Even the big rigs with all the bling cost less than building and changing the rig several times until you're happy. Most of the extreme rigs coming out of Proffitt's Cruisers range from $25,000 to $40,000 and that usually includes the price of the cruiser.

I agree w/ Barry. By the time I bought Meanie and did all the "upgrades", I had over $17,000 in her.:crybaby: Although I was able (with Jeremiah's help) to sell around $4,000 in parts off of her, I would still have been MUCH better off just ordering a ground-up rig from Proffitts Cruisers. The new Meanie only has a few parts left on her that came off the old Meanie: Tub, steering column/wheel, Saginaw PS & Ram, Gauge panel, Warn Winch, and the front shock hoops/shocks. Heck, after all my amateur welding on old Meanie's frame, they even had to change out frames.

im super jealous, those look awesome together on that trailer

And to think, all this started 'cause you "thought" your H1 could follow my lil ole 40 on the trails at Gilmer...........

I was mounting Russell's swampers on his Hummer, and mentioned LSLC was going to Gilmer for ICBM that next weekend, he puffed up like a banty rooster when I told him I did not think his Hummer would be at home with us..........

How long did you last on the trail with it?
20 minutes?

:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I think Jeremiah owes me a commission:flipoff2:

New Diff Cover for 14-bolt

Just ordered Meanie a rear diff cover for the 14-bolt from GreatLakeOffroad.
I believe BOMB PROOF is a good description.

1/2" Bolt ring
1/4" thick one piece cnc formed cover
1/2" mid plating for severe abuse
Counterbored mount holes

For more information, check out http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=501591

Pic on the left is for 11.5" ring gear, 10.5" on the right.
