I keep seeing posts where people are having problems with the relay rod rubbing the shock on the HFS 4" lift kit. This caused me to change my mind and I decided to start looking to see who has the best price on the OME 2.5" kit since I only plan to run 33's anyway. Now I see a bunch of posts and pics where guys end up with the rear axle pushed forward (or is it backwards? I forget now!)after the OME kit is installed. What gives? Is this a problem that everyone is having with the current kits or ??? I want to run one of these kits but since they both seem to have their issues, it is making for a difficult decision. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

About a year and a half ago we bought an OME Dakar 2.5" kit from Classic Cruisers. It worked great. No issues whatsoever. I don't know if these "issues" you speak of come from folks who purchase springs, but use different shackles or other bits, or what.

Probably the single best mod yet done to the truck.

Hi Dan, I really want to go with the OME kit as I believe that is gonna give me the best ride quality. I will probably just get the OME kit and hope for the best with rear axle positioning. Do you run 33's? Have good clearance with the 2.5" lift? Thanks

33x9.50

Excellent clearance. But I understand you could run 33x9.50s with no lift. There's plenty of clearance all around, at full flex in every direction.

I didn't notice any difference in the rear axle position. To me it looked just like stock, but a bit higher, and rode a LOT better. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I think its an optical illusion they speak of. I have OME heavy/heavy on mine which is a slight bit stiff but I love it. Its a great kit. I am getting ready to install the shocks which will make an even bigger difference since I have crap procomps on their now.

Just my .02 on who to buy from. I would suggest Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters. I have only 2 experiences with him both for OME stuff very small stuff, but he was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and great to works with.

I have put a couple of the OME lift kits on the new fj's and they ride pretty good and I haven't had any problems. I saw that Rough Country also makes a lift kits but I haven't heard anything about them.

I've had the heavy/heavy OME lift for many years and it is a great setup for my 10.50x15 BFGs on 15x7" rims. I did not notice a shift in the axle locations. I started with the OME shackles and then converted over to the 4+Plus GSK Super Heavy Duty Greasable Anti-Inversion Shackles that are 3/4" over stock.

x2 on the optical illusion. with the angle of the rear well( front side), when its gets raised it looks as if the axle has shifted foward. then add a taller tire and its looks shifted even more. 4x4 connections ahd the cheapest 2.5 OME lift i could find, ask for kurtis. total was just under $1400 before S$H. that was a COMPLETE KIT.

Thanks for the help guys. Man a fre has the complete OME kit for $1295, is there something missing from their kit that makes it less expansive than the others? I looks complete!

I got the MAF OME 2.5" deluxe kit a while back, install was easy and it rides great. Came with everything except u-bolt plates, and I added was the flip kit anyway, sold the parts I didn't need:meh:

I know the HFS 4" kit centers the wheel in the well, to avoid the "optical illusion" thing... Also shackle angles are better on the HFS kit.

But overall, I have heard the OME kit is the Bee's Nee's when it comes to ride quality. I have had the Skyjacker 2.5" soft kit with 1.5" shackles, plenty of flex and a nice ride.

I love my 2.5 dakaar set up from Kurt at cruiser outfitters. I opted for the complete with greasable shackles and shocks. I run 33x10.50 bfg atkos on stock steelies uncut fenders on my 1980. I enjoy it quite a bit. it was a bit stiff but now I love it.
