I say as long as the wife and money are not issues, buy the Land Cruiser. You clearly want it. You only live once.

I think you need to look at the lift to put the 35's on the lexus. You are raising the suspension up, it will still compress into the fenders if I am not mistaken and it will have less down travel. It just raised the truck up but I think suspension travel is still the same. Might end up crushing seat metal.

3rd row seats are over rated. hard to get to , only small children fit. No cargo room left to carry gear.

look at the Marlin Crawler long arm front lift. You can fit 35's on a 4runner with no trimming.

Cost of ownership will be much more on the LX or the 200. That needs to come into play as well. Most parts warehouses will not carry parts for a LX or 200 but will have 4runner stuff. As I shop I see that, even at Toyota.

My advise is buy a older Land Cruiser to go out in the woods with and beat up. Why take a 50k plus vehicle out in the woods to get scratched up and dented?

We’ve had a few. And the repair bills that go with them! Which is why she wants one under warranty. I certainly do miss my E34 M5.

My grandfather had 5 wives- back to back- but this one is a keeper for most of the right reasons- although she's been way meaner after I started hanging out with you all! We've been together for about 18 years and married for 14 years now. Hard to believe and makes me feel pretty old!

I posted this question in my M416 build thread but I'm not getting any love there so I'll ask here. I just dropped off my M416 to get media blasted. The guy doing the blasting also does powder coat and paint. He's offered to PC is but I was initially thinking for him to just do epoxy primer then I'll paint it myself, probably standard chassis black for the frame and maybe a single stage desert dune for the tube and fenders. He showed me some PC that is pretty close to desert dune and swears with the right prep work the PC won't come off in sheets if/when chipped. It would certainly be nice to just start putting it all back together when I get it back from him but I was thinking about using this opportunity to learn how to do automotive paint. What do you guys think?

Dropped the 2F into the rolling chassis.

After doing all the work on the frame and axles I’ve decided to make everything on the engine/drive train mechanically sound but not put any effort into making it look pretty. I want to drive this thing and explore offroad trails in New Mexico before moving back to Virginia this fall.

What paint did you use for your chassis and would you recommend it? Did you spray it on or brush it on?

Stopped and got this when I got home, and got the joint back together. I’m thinking the snap ring wasn’t seated all the way, that’s way it popped out. Should be good now.

Ok… bought a 15w Midland GMRS radio with the cool little stumpy ghost antenna to mount to the hood. But then I remembered that I live in DC and someone will probably jack my sh-t if my truck looks cool with a fancy antenna and has a radio in it. So I just sent the Midland back to amazon and spent the time on programming my baofeng with the rest of the CLCC channels to supplement my DC apocalypse set up that I programmed in during the initial stages of the pandemic and nationwide riots. This baofeng should be good for my uses.

Im retaking the ham test next month and also purchasing a GMRS license to make it all legal. Woot woot.

So some food for thought…. If you want the benefits of a mobile radio with higher transmit power, get a magnetic mount antenna, feed the cable thru the engine compartment and hide the antenna under the hood when you park in DC. When you are in the convoy put the antenna on top of the hood.

This begs the question, what would you program into a baofeng to hand over to someone stuck in DC with no electricity with roving gangs of looters and the bridges sealed off? As someone who doesn't know much about radios, this was the best I could come up with at the time.
