Well, I spent Friday thru Monday working on my (new to me) piggie. AKA operation pig mobile. Status of the piggie upon arrival was....basically a nice rust free roller; engine, trans, transfer installed but no ancillaries (rad, fuel lines, throttle linkage, driveshafts, brake system..etc...etc..etc) hooked up. Most all bits and pieces and then some are loaded in the rear cargo area so the first order of business was to pull everything out, sort and ID it. Next up was drive shafts...front bolted right up as expected and the rear was in need of shorting also as expected. So, put it up, marked it for @ a 2 inch trim and off the driveshaft shop. In to the DS shop by 9:00am...out by 1 and installed by 2:00. In the interim began going over wiring, adding some oil to the crank...etc..etc.. getting ready to drop a Die Hard in and see what happens. A little of this, a little of that, change out the starter soleniod wire and hook up the Die Hard. Turn the key and woo hooo it turned over and over. I did this for a bit to let the oil get circulated. Then, I bolted down the carb, dumped little juice down the throats...turn the key again and viola fire in the hole...Pigwald fired up. So day one ends with a good clean out, driveshafts modified and installed, a little wiring gremlin futzing and it is alive.
Day two...time to fab up some mounting brackets for installing the 60 rad, chase the always present electrical gremlins, what's up with the fuel tank and oh yea brakes would be nice too. Saturday closed with rad installed (also broke the plastic fan blades...don't ask) brakes functional (not good but functional) and much time spent/burned/wasted trying to figure out WTF was clogged in the suction line of the fuel tank.
Day three (way hung over after staying out way too late with some old friends). An AM run to meet up with Dave (aka swampymarsh) to pick up some wider rims for some eventual new shoes for the pig. PM was spent fabricating throttle linkage from some pieces that were amoung the parts stache and a bunch of heim joints, 3/16" threaded and solid rod, cleavis pins, etc..etc...etc. A lot of time consuming futzing work...but it had to be done and I don't/didn't have the time to order bits and pieces from various sources nor even try to hook up with Jim C, to see if he had some of the right bits on hand. Time is/was of the essence as operation pig mobile had to be completed on day four/Monday. End of day, throttle linkage done ! and more time spent with that flippin gas tank...so out she comes, as Monday AM first thing is a trip to getting it boiled /acid/whatever it takes to clean it out and open it up.
Day four...loaded the tank and took it to rad/gas tank shop...begging to get it back by noon...no dice end of day ...maybe. Then back to Pigwald...still needs to have @ 3' of exhaust pipe bent up between the collector and the old muffler. Midas is a mile down the road so....rigged up a fuel bottle (think drag racer style fuel bottle ~ 1quart) and Pigwald's maiden over road voyage was on. Got to Midas and Pigwald didn't turn off using the key...fixed that little issue once the exhaust was done and Pigwald was back at the shop. Fiddled around waiting and waiting to get the call on the tank. The plastic gear from Tucker arrived for the rear window. So got that in and she goes up and down very nicely. 4:00 and still nothing heard on my tank...times up I had to go. So, Pigwald under it's own power crawled back into the deep recesses of the shop for some extended down time until I can get back out to spend the next alotment of quality time on it.
Once I get things sorted out in my head...I'll be asking some pig specific questions of all and getting together a shopping list of bits needed. Hmmm first off how bout a 60 series plastic rad fan
