Sorry, no updates till I get my 40 dialed in right for 2 more upcoming TLCA events. Gotta modify a few things after GSMTR. Got the Razorback Ramble next week, then the Black Hills cruiser Classic in July. So, hopefully my 40 will hold up so I can get back into this buildup. Stay tuned.......

Awn To the Updates.....

It's been just my luck after every event my 40 needs fixin Ah well, I ain't wheelin if I ain't breakin stuff. I'll be good to go for BHCC '07 Anyway, got the skid about finished after allota fitting & adjusting. Although it doesn't swing all the way down, it's really smooth - no binding & I only need to take out 6 bolts to fully remove it. You can see the AA adaptor mount & the 3/8" plate frame front hinge mount completed. I decided the 1/4" wall perforated metal will be too thin & might deflect some - you can see how tight the skid rests to the tcase. So, I'll use 3/8" plate with a few drainage holes next. Also had to clearance for the parking brake adjuster. After that I'll do an oil cooler bracket then fit up some rear coils & links....... Oh yeah, I'll get to the whole carcass pics a little later - I really haven't done *much bodywork for a while now.......

I welded on some 3/8" plate to cover the tcase. Also, removed a little mat'l. for weight savings, cuz I know how important it is to *some of you Still have to smooth out the inner cuts.... First pic shows the hinge locations, one is removeable:

Yeah it's a good thing you cut out those 3 onces of 3/8". You dont wanna be too heavy.

Sweet skid....I like it. I also like that you put the t/case adapter mount in there. Is there a rubber pad that goes between, or does it bolt up to is solid?

Repairs is a relative term
Some things HAD to be fixed/ modified but I'm at the bottom of my punchout list. I musta changed my design & bracketry on this at least 4 times. It was time consuming but well worth it!

Is there a rubber pad that goes between, or does it bolt up to is solid?

It's a 2 piece AA mount. Top part is alum that accepts a rubberized/ metal piece on the bottom. You can partially see it in the first pic, last post.

I've located a built-in oil cooler for my F oilpan that came from a Japanese fire truck so I won't have to add an aftermarket cooler. All I need to do is add some baffles & hook it up. I would've had to add baffles to my existing oilpan so it's a real time saver. Tonight I'll fit up some 8" rear coils & check the heighth. Looks like the garage door opener will have to be removed

Well, the 8" coils were WAY too high, so I guess I'll start out with some 3.5" coils & go from there. Here's the oilpan I was talkin about. I have a little repair to do - seems as someone bent a few of the cooler coils. It has a built in oil temp sensor, so that's a bonus

Back On Track!

Page 3 Can't let it happen again... On to the updates
I found out, thru one of the SOR techs, the oilpan I picked up has a heat exchanger built in, not an oil cooler as I originally thought Come to think about it, the radiator fluid isn't *that cool anyway. Maybe I could use it as a hot water shower setup. Went ahead & built a 2 piece oil cooler bracket. I need to quit taking so much time making simple brackets turn into crazy hours of fabbin - I'll never get this build done that way The cooler is just mocked in there as I had to get the angles right. The top bracket will be affixed to the outer header flange. Brackets are constructed from 1/8". I'll add braided lines for the hookup, just like I did on my 40

Onto Reassembling Interior Stuff...

I finished taking apart, cleaning, repainting & installing the heater. Also got my tranny/ transfer shifter boots mounted. I had to rework the tranny hump shifter holes too. I used some wdw./ door weatherstripping from H.D. for the hump base. Instead of drilling through & possibly tearing the w/s, I thought it'd be easier to use a small soldering iron to push thru & melt it for a perfect hole:

Frame Mounted Battery Box:

Since my shock tower sticks thru where the stock battery tray rests, I had to figure out a new location. I moved it inward, close to the heater box. I'll add removeable horiz. braces to the shock tower to handle any side to side movement. For the tray, I just lopped off the side braces & will reinforce the bottom. I have 2 pieces that mount to the bottom & will tie into the base (curved tube) perpendicularly. I'll weld in some threaded rod coupler to catch the battery tray. Then, all I'll need to do is fab up the pieces that connect the base to the 2 pieces (shaped like an LC bezel ;p)

Is that an ARB locker switch I see hanging from the dash? Are you going to have ARB's f&r??
