Morning guys, A couple of months ago I acquired a 1968 FJ55 from my nephew in a trade. The wife and I have loved the iron pigs from afar and getting this one way a dream It all started with my nephew telling me he found a landcruiser up on someones property. He expressed an interest in it, and the guy said he was going to give it to someone who never picked it up. The FJ was on the property when the land owner bought the property and he used it to plow snow. My nephew asked to have it and the guy finally said yes.
September of 2017 I went with him to retrieve it. Both front tire were flat and it had to be dragged onto the trailer. Getting it off proved to be a problem as well. we drove the trailer next to a tree, chained the back bumper to the tree and pulled away.

The FJ sat in a feed lot feed for a year. I drove by the lot on the way to town looking down at it and longing for it. I suspected that he would never be able to afford the cost to fix it and decided to see if he would let it go. He had a truck that was giving him problems and I had a truck that would not take much to make it a runner. So I sent him a text one day, "Swap you". He never replies so I let it drop. Move forward a couple of months and I said Swap you again. He said what I pointed to my 1962 Ford F100 Unibody and said that for the Landcruiser. Turns out he had always wanted to F100, but thought I would never part with it. So we shook hands and He and I went and picked up the Landcruiser. He now has the F100 up and running and is driving it around town.

So where does that leave me, I have bought four new tires for it, BF Goodrich 235/75R-15's. I'm not looking to make this a full blown thrashing rig. My plans are to make a functional rig that we can take on drives up into the mountains and have fun driving the roads.

Right on, show us some more when you can.

These guys in here are a serious resource to help projects along.

Congratulations that is a great looking pig.

So far I've ordered the headlight trim ring from CruiserCorps and a new Thermostat housing from Specter, The housing was I guess cracked and replaced by a make shift cover without thermostat. I think it was only being used in the winter.

And it begins, I purchased a set of BF Goodrich tires in 235X75R-15. I wasn't sure about the original size, but that is what was on it. So now the FJ55 is up on all fours. I pulled the carburetor and drained the fuel tank out from the fitting that connects to the fuel pump. The carb had old dried up junk in the bowl. I think I'm going to need gasket kit as the carb is leaking fuel a little. It might swell up with some fuel and heat, will see. I ground off all the remnants of the plow system that someone had welded onto the makeshift front bumper. Its not the original but until one comes along. Took the time to clean out the interior of the junk and dirt that has accumulated over the years.

So how long did it sit, the plates tabs say 2000. But he could have been using it in the drive way until it stopped running. The roof a caved in by snow, so all the supports are bent. the roof also had a hole at the front in the middle so when the snow melted it went into the cab along the roof to where the windshield joins, all of that area including the visor mount metal is rotted out. so eventually I will need to search out metal to replace the rot.

Great enthusiasm. Keep it up and running. Want to see you at the next pig powwow

Looks awesome. I dig that the front markers are attached to the side panel of the front fender instead of the flat part of the fender.

Thanks, after going to town for some 50/50 I got the system filled up. It was facing down a slight grade and had an air pocket at the back, she burped a little and settles right down.

I did a compression test the other day and found the highest reading was 145 and lowest 138, so difference of 8psi.. Drained the fuel tank and refilled with some no ethanol fuel. She started and ran high, adjusted the throttle cable and mixture screw. Checked the battery and saw that it was charging. It has an intermittent miss which I think is the ignition. going to replace the wires, I have a new set of points. Plugs were replaced last week.

Next on the list is the hydraulic clutch system, pedal would not move. Lessened the banjo fitting and the pedal moved. Tightened it back up and loosened the bleed on the slave and the pedal moved. Took a bar and pressed on the clutch fork lever it moved, thinking the slave is frozen, ordered a new one.
