Tell me what's wrong with this suspension

Holy cow. If only he'd stayed in school long enough to take a physics class.

Rice, I dont think a physics class would have helped that guy.

I bet the smallest bump in the road would cause those rear shackles to invert and lock the springs into the frame.

The XD has the 5.0 Cummins in it too, right? What a shame.

Agree. And even if the shackles never invert they aren't allowing the springs to lengthen. That has to make for a terrible ride.

It is the county's way to bring in every penny that they can. I would not be surprised if they were in the same boat as the county I live in, Spartanburg County. They have spent far too much money and now they have to go after stupid stuff taxes to pay for it.

I am mid fight with Spartanburg now over property taxes. I was assessed agricultural and 2015 they drop my AG and tax me at the highest rate they can 6%. My taxes on one lot of 10.95 acres and another of 1 acre went from just under $25.00 (yes twenty five) to just under $1,500.00 annually. This is on all wooded land.

Here is the rub, the county (employees) are under county directive not to give any information to citizens. This means they WILL NOT tell me exactly why I no longer qualify for AG, just that I do not and I need to pay up. See the county is already being sued by 4 entities for pretty much the same stuff. So they figure if they say nothing they can not be held to anything.

So I went to the USDA and the FDA and they qualified my properties as farmland. So the Federal Government and the State of SC qualify my place as a farm. I submitted my latest application with my Federal/state farm # and also a timber plan for the property, including maintaining habitat for all of God's creatures that call my place home of run trails through it. I listed all the little critters.

I've also found out that the 4.95 acres that the house sits on can also qualify for AG, less 1 acre. So once we get through the other two parcels I will then apply for AG on the homestead lot, 4.95 acres.

This has happened to countless people in this county this year, a great many did the sheepish thing and just paid up. If you do not fight now, it will be harder to fight in the future. The county started telling me about their deadlines and I should pay what I owe and if I get the AG they will refund the difference, fat chance.

My parting words leaving the last meeting. "I know you folks do not value my time, but I certainly do and this has gone on long enough. You will not even tell me why I no longer qualify, yet nothing has changed. THe Fed and State qualify me as a farm, eligible for AG based property taxing. Either fix this now and stop jerking me around or I will be forced to go to the media and file against the county. If you're not careful you will all be living in Stanleyville and working for me." I love that line :) I've used it twice with a county and a township. We'll see how it works out this time. I won the first time.

Bottom line is, if you do not fight it, you get what you get. No way on earth I'd pay extra on a 20 year old sedan that were sold in the millions. Classic my AZZ!!!!!

Property taxes are BS. I bought my house in 2007. Coincidently, the tax re-evaluation happened the month I purchased my home. The tax valuation was almost 40K more than what I just purchased my house for. I appealed because I obviously had my appraisal for the mortgage. It was denied and Wake County said they liked their number better. I appealed 2 more times and was denied each time. Flash forward to this past fall, taxes went up yet again and coincidently at the same time the same house in my neighborhood sold for 65K less then my tax valuation. I then paid for another an appraisal and appealed to only be denied again. I told them I would be glad to sell my house for what they think its worth. The whole tax system is complete BS IMO.

These are little townships and counties run by little people with much larger egos in many cases. They adopt a belief that they can do what they want, because after all they are the county and have authority over all inside it.

The exact type of case you delt with also happened in Key West, once a huge ground swell of citizens started pushing back they finally brought tax assessments back to almost reality. If you are fighting them as a group you have to be loud. If you are fighting them solo you have to be REAL loud. Our ancestors fought a war with England over similar situations. Part of our heritage is the right to fight back. It is a choice.

I'm sure most have seen this before. My auto shop teacher used to show it to new students every semester. It just popped back up on facebook.

Good for a laugh and to show to people that know nothing about cars.

When we moved to Palmdale, CA in 2006 the housing market took a dive and it kept plunging for years (as you are all aware, no doubt). I had paid $300K for my house on 3 acres in Southern California and Zillow said it was worth about half that amount in 2008. So, in 2008, the county reassessed me at $400K and told me I couldn't appeal for 2 years. In 2007, they assessed me with a $100/month fee (for 20 years) to pay for a road that I didn't even drive on. They also added a $50/month fee for a hospital that was never built. For the hospital, the state seized those funds a few years later to pay for Section 8 housing in San Francisco. My wife and I agree that our time in California was an overall "good experience"... However... There are only a few things that we miss about California.

Damn dude we were practically neighbors for a while. I lived in canyon country from 2004-2007.

did you ever drive down that road that played the lone ranger song?

This is impressive, when I think about our equipment and things we "need" to get out and explore, check this out:

Checking back in ... finally, and yes, I know "holy old post batman"

I count myself as lucky enough to have met and spent a few hours talking with mark Smith when i did a lot of Trail Guide work with Jeep Jamboree (yes, I am a reformed Heep driver). The man was incredible and was a true ambassador for off-highway vehicle exploration. I have a personally autographed copy of his book "Driven by a Dream" that he gave me that resides in an place of honor in my library

Good to see you Sam :)

Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated
