Today was spent cleaning up the wiper motor asemblies, resodlering the wiring terminals, fitted a new plug for the motor connector.
It took some time freeing up the cable as l couldn't fully strip in down but it came up sweet. Kept spraying and working the cable back and forth until the lube came out clean.
The wiper shafts were quite tight but cleaned up well once stripped, cleaned and regreased with some zinc oxide grease i had.
Made some new gaskets to seal up the assemblies as one was missing and the other old, also made a new rubber as one was a bit worn. Might try and use rubber without reinforcing in it, more like the original but its what i had.
Used some tape over the cable but will order some heat shrink ti fit as it might look a bit cleaner. Cable outer casing was all cracked up, don't think these are available anymore. These will all get painted at a later date;)

Been a while since I posted. Bought a HJ47 in original condition that needed some attention, full western Queensland Farm spec.
So Olive got put on the back burn.
Before I got the HJ47 l did put some paint on the tub.
Very happy with how it turned out even with a few small runs. Love the colour

Also put the fibreglass half doors on with my modified stainless door hinge bolts
Fitting stainless bolts for door hinges and bonnet. Also fine tuning my custom made door strikers to suit the early body to later doors. Was going to use some old Toyota door rubbers but they push out the bottom of the fibreglass half doors. Maybe going to use some self adhesive D seal?

Bought some brand new front guards through my local Toyota dealer. Hard to believe they are still available.
When I went to pick them up l noticed some damage to one and lots of stratches, he said they don’t come packaged just thrown on a pallet🙄
That was a bit disappointing but he gave me a discount.

Got them scruffed back and epoxy primer on. First l had to straighten out the dent guard.

A while back l bought a heap of door seals and some silicon hoses from Cityracer which appear to be great quality. I went to fit the silicon hoses but couldn’t figure out why they didn’t fit. Then the penny dropped, l hadn’t read that they suit a LHD, bugger. So they are different from LHD to RHD, l don’t know why,
So l made a few cuts and came up with these. Used some stainless tube l had to join the pieces at the new lengths to suit my RHD.

Been a while since I have had a chance to get back to this project. Been side tracked with my FZJ80 turbo build and my HJ47 getting that on the road and enjoying driving them both.
Had the guards and upper sections and front panel all painted up but needed to paint the back sides of them, I decided to use coloured raptor. After prepping the guards and panels I layed down a few coats. Hopefully this will keep the rust out for years to come.

Got some new button head bolts for the roll bar and got it mounted in. Sprayed some rust proofing between the mounting plates.
Also polished the front bezel panel and started to reassemble. Fitting new Koito H4 head lights with upgraded loom. Had some old Koito sealed beams fitted, assuming from factory. Sand blasted and painted the headlight buckets.

Also blasted and painted the headlight mounts with zinc paint as they had rust starting. Missing a few screws for the mounts, always the way after a few years of parts being pulled apart. Resleeved the wiring for the headlights but will need a new grommet for the buckets.
Had to mount up the old fibreglass bezel for a look, looks great with the new Koito lights.

Thanks man appreciate that, sometimes l think l'm being too fussy and should just get this thing done.
Too many projects keep getting in my way and now there is talk on shed extensions and of course the wifes list of jobs

More prep work for the front guards and windscreen frame getting ready for final green paint. Also started stripping the bonnet of paint and straighten out the dents . Bloody bonnet looks like someone has been dancing on it. Made a small dent remover out of a broken punch to knock out some small imperfections.

So after the paint stripper there was still paint and rust on the bonnet so out came the grinder with one of my favourite paint stripping discs. If you haven’t used one they are awesome. Bonnet came out clean, then l made a cardboard template to see the high and low spots on the curved edges of the bonnet. Been watching a lot of panel work videos on YouTube as l love working with steel and engines. Japhands is one that I enjoy, this boy has some skills.

The line is where the curve of the bonnet changes so made a template for the front section and one for the middle. Middle is buckled really bad but slowing hammering it back into shape.

Happy with the progress on the big dents, then noticed the centre rib was not right on the drivers side. Decided to go the whole hog and removed the bracing on the inside to straighten the rib. Also a good decision so I can paint the bracing properly and straighten it all. Test fitted the chrome bonnet emblem, that was also bent. Not perfect but close enough, might get it rechromed one day. Has some oil canning on the upper sections that l will have to shrink to get rid off.🍺

With some nice weather l decided to throw some green paint on my guards, windscreen frame and some bits and pieces. Nice to finally finish off some painting, dust manage to get on while painting so don’t look too close but happy enough with a shed paint job. Maybe I need to refine my paint booth.

Had a big shop clean up and decided to fit the front windscreen glass, unfortunately the windscreen rubber has seen better days and l will need a new one. It seems the early models with the wipers on the top of the screen had a two piece windscreen rubber which has a locking strip.
I have a few later rubbers and frames but they are different, hopefully my local Toyota can source one for a good price as shipping prices for overseas have gone up. Does anyone know if the windscreen rubber is a molded one piece as mine has a join and thinking its aftermarket?
Also like to paint the wiper motor assembly with an ash gray or similar paint to tidy it up.

Mounted up the rear tailgate doors, nice to see things going back together. Used stainless hardware to bolt them on with neverseize on the threads. Made some rubber mounts like the factory had where the hinges mount to the body but think they need to be thicker? Seems like the doors need to push out further.
Anyone know how thick the rubber is from factory? Might see if thicker ones fix my issue. Also need to find some door seals for them, don’t think Toyota sell them anymore.
