Builds Old Landy: An HJ45 Story/Build Thread

Sorry we haven't posted much, but I have school during the week and these past two weekends we have been remodeling my parents master bathroom. We will have more to post soon.

We now both have 45's so we won't be going into this journey alone. I am excited to see your build as well. I'm not much of an eloquent writer like the rest of you are (I guess it comes with age:santa:), but I hope you realize how thankful I am to you Patrick.:)

If any one of us old folks has a positive impact on a younger generation, we have all the thanks we would ever need.

Keep it up! Great stuff

Happy Bday @Cowboy45!

Looking forward to heading to the barn to document the baseline state of Old Landy and get a game plan together.

Happy birthday!

Man, idk how I ended up in this section of the forum (I’m only a simple 80 owner) but this is one of my favorite threads on MUD! I spent the entire day reading through the whole thread and although it all was great, this was probably my favorite part

I was @Cowboy45’s age when Old Landy was in Nairobi. I was learning how to do engine overhauls on my dad’s Minis at 11 years old. @Cowboy45 is doing engine overhauls with me at 12. Old Landy comes by us at the same stage in life.

Thanks for taking the time to share your journey with us and I look forward to what y’all do with Old Landy. Good luck @Cowboy45

Ps - Happy late birthday :steer:

Haha, see you soon with a 40 something in this section! Hook is set methinks.

Seeing that someone has spent the entire day reading this thread is so cool! Thanks for the birthday wishes too!

The force is strong with this one.

@Viking Hagar that just looks amazing. I can imagine Old Landy in that state. Nice job!! Split rims look awesome!! I think Old Landy’s split rims still have African dirt on packed in certain places! Is it an HJ45 or 47?

Is this build done yet? Asking for a friend.

.

Living up to the “Full complete service” Andres had done and would like to see us do means we will be methodical and thorough. We are in the overall planning, baseline documenting, and spitballing phase.

It will not be a bondo makeover or a garage queen. She will not disappoint.

We will share our thoughts shortly. We also getting my older son’s (Liam) project (67 Mustang) to the finnish line. His body panels are sucking the space out of the Elf Barn.

@Cowboy45 will overhaul the 2H/5Spd/tranny/ turbo set up for Old Landy while the pony trickles out. We also adding front disc brakes and rear axle with ebrake. Safety and reliability is first and foremost. The axles will be rebuilt after engine/ tranny/ transfer. Drive train refurb will be the main initial focus for the next few weeks.

Ummm you have the park brake on the split case (very hard to find) so tell me again why you'll be moving to a park brake axel?

Inquiring minds want to know? ;)

One in pic is not the one for Old Landy. That is for another project (Kermit, my rustic green 40). Old Landy has a (non split) transfer case with ebrake connected to a 4 spd. We are putting in a h55/splitcase which does not have a transfer ebrake. I have not confirmed whether existing transfer case on Old Landy will work with the H55. It might.

However, EBI hooked us up with a H55/ transfer combo.
