A glimpse into Andres’ day to day excitement from his blog:

- First time reading an English book
- First time fishing...soon was his last
- Letting his cholera vaccination expire as he crosses the border. @CaptClose and were feeling bad when our wood was confiscated at the Canadian Border due to Dutch Elm disease. We don’t hold a candle to Cholera.

Andres’ always faced adventure dead on just like his rig.

In addition to picking up two Israeli girls on the way to the lake, Old Landy stiff arms a Unimog and VW buses through tough terrain. She is a beast. Hard to beat a Unimog, but Old Landy did.

Old Landy worked 3 hours winching other lame trucks up the hill.

So, an exciting day in the Old Landy’s new life as a Texan. She passed VIN verification. @meandrew228 and his son joined me taking Old Landy to the Sheriff’s office. Brutus set sail to Paris.

The Sherrif met me at the Civic Center Parking Lot. Odd place. Gun in holster, unmarked F150. Hmmm. He asked me to open the hood, grabbed the vin from tag and checked the frame. Snagged my ID. Same thoughts that ran through @CaptClose and my head when crossing the border into Calgary, flashed by. Sweaty palms.

Sherrif tapped on his computer like the flight checkin clerk on Meet the Parents



Anyhoo, gun still in holster and no zip ties in tow, he printed the form and signed it. He said “ haha it took less time to sign this than it took for you to get here”. I sheepishly bantered on to keep him focused.

I could have hugged him but I 86’d the thought and grabbed the form with gentle but “you will have to take it from my dead hands” tug.

Small step for Sheriff. Giant leep for Old Landy.

We kept Brutus running. Form in hand, we got in, locked the doors, and full throttled starboard. Heading to the Elf Barn where @Cowboy45 will begin the build.

We grabbed lunch at what seemed to be an unassuming but charming little place in Sulfur Springs, TX, before we got to the Elf Barn. The Potato House.

We grabbed lunch... damn good burgers. They are also known for the spud specialties.

As we inhaled morsels of fat drenched goodness, the owner stopped by and we asked her to take a pic of us. She obliged. What happened next was quite unexpected.

The Owner pointed the collage of newspaper clippings behind my Mr. Potato Head and went on to share how she recieved a US Supreme Court ruling in her favor.

Wait What??

Reportedly, the city atttorney and some of his cohorts wanted the owner of the restaurant to “lighten the skin of their potatoman logo”. It did not “fit with the City’s gentrification efforts”. They asked her to take the sign down. All I could think of was that it was a molasses day at the City Attorney’s office and he needed to show he was not whistling Dixie with a finger up his *ss on the tax payers tab.

The owner sued the City for defamation and more. It went all up to the Supreme Court where she got it overturned. Like Old Landy, no is not in her vocabulary.

As we cashed out the owner also pointed out Mrs. Bonham. She and her husband invented JB Weld. The Spud Place is a gold mine. Have to visit again. I might where a potato suit next time.

Brutus ebbed thru changing scenery to the Elf Barn. Old Landy was home. @meandrew228 threaded the trailer to the barn with Swiss precision. Thought we could get Old Landy as close to the barn entrance and slide her in without having to navigate the ramp. She is heavy. We could not push her off the trailer.

We paused and redid the calculus.

Decided to offload it in the yard using Orange Peel. The little tractor that could. Finally, Old Landy, in a safe dry place. Where Da Vinci’s preserve well.

Once we got Old Landy in, we muscled her to her temporary place. Still more to go. That will happen with wheel dollies.

Next Brutus received enlightenment. We unloaded the bits we got from EBI cruisers, including Old Landy’s 2H poweplant, 5spd, split case transfer case, that @Cowboy45 will rebuild in prep for a 2HT drivetrain.

Thanks @meandrew228!! Could not have done it alone.

@Cowboy45, my other son Liam, @CenTXFJ60, and @CaptClose will be at the barn as we baseline Old Landy’s current condition and unveil more goodies that lay in the camper. Eager to see what more it says about Old Landy and Andres.

Why don´t you stay with the H engine & 4 speed?

The H is a 3.6 L (3,576 cc) inline, 12-valve ] OHV diesel engine. Bore is 88 mm and stroke is 98 mm, with a compression ratio of 21:1. Output is 95 PS (70 kW) rpm at 3,600 with 22.0 kg⋅m (216 N⋅m; 159 lb⋅ft) of torque at 2,200 rpm.
I remember the australian & european 4x4 print media at this time they praised the H engine.
It was the strongest Diesel engine you could get it this 4x4 category.

The H engine is the rare one in the LC world worth to be preserved in a can.
