Looking at installing 17x9 wheels on my 80 series with either 285/70R17 or 305/70R17 tires.
What is the offset I should look for in order to have the wheels and tires flushed with the fenders?

Any specific brands recommended?

Thanks

They vary, but 8" is the widest factory rim used on 80s

9" wide wheel is too wide for a 285,or 305 tire IMO

If the wheel is too wide, you're more likely to get crud stuck in the bed offroad, or break the bead and cause a leak.
Narrower rim helps the tire protect the bead

I run a 17x9 with a -38

+1 - 9" too wide for those tire sizes.
8" with 4.25 BS and -12 offset gets you flush on flared models. 285/75s btw.

Will going with wider tires help? I'm considering running 305/70R17 on OEM GX470 17x7.5 +25mm offset, not sure what the BS is.

as stated on an 8" rim a -12 puts it right at the edge of the fender. a 0 is just slightly tucked.

These are a 16*8 with a -12

17x9 -12 offset tucks in with a 37x12.50.

It's the other way for me. The GX470 (2003-2009) OEM Wheel have +25mm offset vs -12mm. Wheels are also narrower 17x7.5 vs 17x9.

My concern is tires be too tucked in, and importantly any possible rubbing on the inner side of the wheel well. Found this thread, but have heard back:

You can only really compare offset on rims that are the same width.

This is a 17*7.5 +25 compared to a 17*9 -12

If the wheels were identical width the difference would be 37mm. But due to width change the total offset difference is 56mm. Over 2"
