Im goin this afternoon to look at the 97 in Mt Airy. According to the mechanic, its blowin bubbles in the rad, so its def a head gasket. The owner has no clue if it has lockers or not.

Most likely a head gasket.

I had the same thought as above once and found out it was a cracked head.

4 speed trans out of a 86 FJ60 make me an offer

Okay, but why? To replace yours?

That's a silly question...are we capped at the # we are allowed to have???

If the price is right, it will replace the 88 4r. daughter is driving my 97.

If we are capped please don't let my wife know

I think we have a deal on the truck. he's gotta get a price to fix the phh and heater control valve hose. both leaked on the test drive.

I'll keep you posted.

Good thing you got it because I was headed up tomorrow to look at it. Needless to say, the :princess: wasn't too happy so thanks for getting me out of the doghouse and saving me the gas money!

lol. I have to do the sales pitch to the wife tonight. I think for the price, I shouldnt be in tooooo much trouble. Hopefully...

Here's how the meeting went with him.

His son used it for college at ECU. he found mud, and didnt do a great job of washin it off.

The dad took it to be washed, and cleaned the engine. I cant see where anything had been hosed off, other than the air cleaner housing. The rest is covered in caked on mud. he said the engine got hot after that cleaning, and thought the cleaning caused the ac to blow warm (temp cutoff), and then overheat about 50 yards from the mechanic's shop. It had been idling in the parkin lot for 40 mins prior to that, with normal temp air. I'm guessin he was going uphill at slow speed/stop n go traffic, and temp went up. I couldnt get the temp over 185 on my actron driving with the ac on, ac off, heat on, heat off.

There are a LOT of little things that need attention.
Full disclosure on the truck if i decide to pass on it. Radiator is totally caked with mud. It's going to need about 3 gallons of simple green and some pressure washin lovin. Same thing with the rest of the engine bay and undercarriage.

May need a fan clutch. Didnt want to do the towel test at the mechanic's place.

Battery is dead or very weak. Got my aux for that.

Oil light is on. I think its just low on oil. Oil pressure was good, and it was a little low on the dipstick. Receipt for last oil change showed 7.4 qts. Fram oil filter will have to go.

It will probably need the crank seal and oil pump gasket. May need the pans resealed.

Knuckles didnt look like they had birf soup, or throwin grease. Front diff had a blue mark over the fill plug. Didnt look under the rear to see if it had a similar mark.

Flares have the gasket coming out on most of them. (Flares will be disposed of anyway).

Front bumper and shopping cart guard were slightly pushed into the front apron. That wont bother me, because the shoppin cart guard will be removed. Ideally, bumper will be replaced with somethin substantial.

Running boards are rusty and damaged....those will come off, and hit the recycle pile

It has a set of firestone destination streeties on it. various levels of tread. Those would need to be replaced soon.

Steering is a touch wandery, but that could be because the streeties are a bit low on air, or that I'm used to the tight steering on my gx470.

Both seats will need gears. passenger doesnt move, drivers moves but grinds. only moved it unloaded. Seats have the usual 80s tear, and aftermarket seat covers. (new seats would be in the works).
The interior (minus the front seats) is in nice shape. Has an aftermarket pioneer radio, rockford fosgate coaxials in front and rear doors, and had a power line and rca cable for a subwoofer thats not in there.

Yep, that was me with my arm wavin out the sunroof. Was on my way back from Mt Airy. Did the same thing at @Rice just after he turned onto 68, but he must have been deeply immersed in some quantum physics contemplation, because he didnt wave back.

Wanted - 60s International Harvester 4x4 truck - prefer Travelette (quad cab) but not opposed to single cab.

Ideally local-ish if anyone has any leads, looking at some stuff online but not close already

$10k budget to get a dependable weekend truck

I saw it in Richmond too, I have emailed, nothing back. Only one picture in each post, Im thinking scam as well

It is a scam. I texted and asked for the location and a day/time that I could come look at it and the response was " Send me your email address for pictures of Land Cruiser at $1,500." Phishing add. I flagged it.

Long shot wish list for my 96 LC In case anyone is going a different route with their trucks or maybe just upgrading and needing to get rid of some stuff.

1. A real front bumper, aka.. ARB,SLEE or even something homegrown and cool.
2. A real rear swing out bumper
3. OME front and rear springs, heavy probably
4. Tires with decent tread left 285's - 305's?
5. 2 stock wheels

Let me know what you have..
