Grats!! Cool name :) Did you have to take the "AF" or is that stand for something?

The available prefixes were limited so I kinda took what they had. It had to start with an "A" or a "K" but only Amateur Extras can get an "A" . A couple "FJ" call signs were available like AA4FJ but I wanted a "Whisky" . Besides, I was having a hard time saying alpha alpha 4 foxtrot juliet. Just didn't flow.

I got one too. Was "saved for later". Now just have to get licensed.
We are having a training/testing session here, for licensing, if you feel like coming down to Charleston on the 30th and 31st. Open to all, just need to get your name on the list. The more HAMs the merrier, so the saying goes...

After the OTMT ,I now see the importance of a ham radio, after Rick broke down in the middle of nowhere , with no signal ,and we were able to hear him.on the ham .I will now be getting my license ,as soon as possible as I have one headed this way .

Follow up.... Really enjoying this little rig. Checked in to the local rag chew net tonight via repeater using only the whip antenna. The repeater is located in Level Cross, NC ... About 25 linear miles from me. Signal report was excellent.

So basically:
"Breaker 1-9, this here's Zippy, y'all come back at me with a radio check?"

"You good"

Do I pass my HAM test?

10-4 good buddy - keep your ears on - catch you on the flip flop

So that cover picture settles it. There are two kinds of Ham users:

1 - The sketchy hoodie wearing, snapple drinking, polarized sunglasses wearing, "Anonymous" hacker learning how to use HAM so they can communicate with each other after they collapse the internet to bring the world to it's knees
2 - The old, dorky married guy that sits in front of a laptop that will allow him to communicate verbally and visually with anyone, anywhere on the planet, learning the marvels of talking in official military sounding codes through a piece of 19th century technology to some other dorky guy that's a few hundred miles away.

I'm in!

I'm #1 :(

I pretty much crammed for the test just to get 2M for having it with the Toyota Club. Wrong guy to study with for the test, I can tell you that.
