Crawling an 80 series Cruiser with 37's observations:

(note: I have extensive rockcrawling experience, but only 10% of it is in large Land Cruiser wagons)

My rig...stock 97 with Heavy fronts/Medium rears...2" Metal Tech spacers front, 30mm packers rear. 2.5" OME shocks. Swaybars attached. Stock brake lines.

1) the 345's make for a very balanced 80 series on climbs, decents and off camber trails.

2) With 4.11's, I literally run out of power/torque when I really bind it up so it will likely not break as easy as if I had 4.88's or a crawlbox

3) I bound it up so hard that I watched my steering wheel turn in my hand and the truck did not move. HD Tie rod and drag link on order Monday

4) Power is adequate around town and on the trail. See above. 4.88's would be nice, but not necessary.

5) Never had brake fade even though one guy in group with same tires and 4.88's did as well as one with 315's and 4.88's I used LOW (1st) a lot and stayed off the brakes. Again, 4.88's would be nice but not necessary

6) Tires rub some, but they did not chunk at all. The fronts did not bind at full stuff and turn. Crazy amounts of lift are not needed to run 345's/37's.

7) I rarely ever carried a tire due to short shocks and swaybars. I picked my line and all was good.

8) I used my front locker maybe 6 times for Fins/Hell's/Gold Bar/Poison Spider/Spike/Cliffhanger/Steel Bender

Here it is crossing the DEEP crack on Golden Spike, rear locker only

I'll throw the usual caviout in here - it depends. I have opened up wheel wells, J' springs, 3" bumpstops and 1" body lift and I would rub if I didn't have all of these for one simple reason - 14" travel shocks.

Wheeled with Prophecy a while back - he's on J's and mediums I believe w/ L's and w/ 1" body, full LX flares, same tires w/ simular wheels , and he has as much clearance as I do w/ more lift, no flares and opened wells. The only difference is when my axle fully articulates it stuffs that 37 that much deaper when the other side droops. I didn't think it was as big a deal as it is, but I can easily gain clearance by limiting my down travel - seems odd - and the ammount is amazing to me.

i really like the look of the gray wheels. do you have a link to your technique in a post?

stock color Sequoia/Tundra rims on 37's:

I just sanded them with a fine grit paper, cleaned up the dust with a "degreaser" type cleaning spray and paper towels, then sprayed them with Duplicolor "Perfect Match" Gunmetal Metallic. It's sold at Advance Auto Parts and is supposed to be used to touch up body paint. I didn't clear coat on top of them, so that I can touch them up after beating them up, which has proved to be a good idea.

in the process of retiring the old pickup from weekend wheeler, retiring the cruiser from DD status to fulltime wheeler, and getting used to DD a 3rd gen runner(feels like driving a pogo stick compared to my smooth, heavy 80, but easier on the wallet).

test fitting my 37x12.50/17 pitbull radial rockers on 17x8 soft 8s 3.5" custom backspacing. ironman 2" front springs/stock rears. hitting the trail next weekend:

pulling off the front fenders for minimal trimming. rears quarters will get the lip trimmed. bumpers trimmed/removed. we dont have huge rocks, but really tight trails and off camber climbs where the low COG will come in handy. im okay with this thing becoming a raisin, its not very clean to start with. job moved me out of town so i havent been able to chop the roof yet, coming soon though. headed to the badlands for the first time in August. should be a fun time.

I love the PB Rockers fellas ! Here's 38.5x11-16 boggers:

That's sick.

Holy awesome lexus!!

I was just up in your neck o' the woods climbing on Summersville Lake. Wish I woulda known there is badass lexus just down the road.

Is there wheeling up there? I assumed that there must be, but I have never heard of anything. Private?

wv_lx450 we come down to west virginia to ride ivy which is near ravenswood. i havent taken my cruiser there due to some of the rocks being the size of my cruiser, but it is some of the best wheeling i have ever done. a guy we wheel with named Joe has some land too that is just relentless. he's got a few duece and a halfs, a vw diesel swapped sammi and diesel yota buggy. WV has good wheeling and good folks...you cant beat that.

ill have to check you out next time im down there.

WSPASTORBRYAN...Thanks!!! ive been trimming my fenders/quarters and modifiying my inner fenders after work so i will have some new pics to post up soon. im so close to stuffing these tires on stock bumpstops. 4" BS would make this easier but id rather have the width. I still have about a 1/2 inch till im on bumps front or rear. just a little more modding is necessary.

testing wheelwell fit as im trimming:

the front ive trimmed a good inch or more and pie cut the inner fender and beat it up to match the new opening. the rear ive cut considerably and i have to tack the inner quarter to the outer again and smooth things out. the i still have more smoothing out to do on all the wheel wells, im just trimming a little at a time so i only take whats needed.

The rear is just easier to fold the whole thing over. At least that's what I did - seemed if I was going to do all the work, was going to get as much room as possible for anything that might come in the future. Be careful welding that area, a little burn through can cause a big fire (personal experience).

Ran through this thread start to finish again, and I should have kept a running total of how many LX's vs LC's there are on 'big' tires. Considering the number of LX's out there vs. LC's, it does seem a disproportionate number of the pink panty mobiles have fallen victim to 37's and up.

Yep but, it's common knowledge that pink panties don't wheel, so they are all posers!:hillbilly:

I am in Richmond and would love to wheel in WV
Seems like it would ony be 5 hour or so trip
I am always up for traveling to new places
