I'm looking to find someone that will be attending Rubithon that would be willing to take photographs of the event. Especially Rock Chef, Dinner, RTF Wine Tasting and the Raffle as well as general shots of the event. These pictures will be used for the Rubithon site as well as the Facebook site. Additionally, photos will be placed in Toyota Trails.

Unfortunately the photographer that I had lined up had some unexpected issues arise and will not be able to attend after all.

If you are interested, please email me at chairman (at) rubithon (dot) com.

Thanks!
Eric

I thought woody was the designated picture taker?! :)

For those that have been wondering if you'll make it -- I took my son and his roommate up to the 'Con last weekend, since both are getting transferred from San Diego to new Duty Stations. His roommate has a mildly lifted 2013 Rubicon on 34's and I had my FJ40 on 35's.

We left Loon Lake at 9:30 AM, stopped at Soup Kitchen at 11:40 for Lunch, made it to Big Sluice at 3:00 and pulled it to the Springs at 5:00. The trail has been smoothed out a lot. We bypassed Little Sluice even though I think I could have made it, and I certainly could have gotten the Jeep to the middle exit line.

Million Dollar hill was closed, and the only part open was the far right, where I've flopped twice. They've rocked it up, and it was a smooth shot down. The water crossing after that was maybe 20" deep. We bypassed Old Sluiced, as the roommate was driving his J##p to Washington, so we didn't want to break it.

Big Sluice has also been "fixed", and now the line to the far right is fairly straight forward. The spot between the trees is still a challenge, and the bottom half hasn't really been touched. From there, the trip into the Springs had a few tough spots, but we got through OK.

On Sunday we didn't leave camp until 12:20, and got to Observation at 1:40. The base after the hair pin (whale rock?), pinch rock and v rock were the usual tricky areas, but it's obvious that some work has been done there too. We ate lunch and then got to Staging area a little before 5. We had a couple of tough spots on the way out, and one spot where my son got off the line and we overheated / vapor locked.

So, all in all, I would say that if you take your time, stay off the skinny pedal, and listen to your spotter you will be just fine.

I regret to inform that we have had to cancel the FJC run this year, due to low sign up and cost to get the Metal Tech guys down here to run it. I hope there will be more interest in the future, because they very much want to be a part of Rubithon and get the FJC's on the Trail!

Loaded, packed and ready to go. Leaving tomorrow. It's going to be a long trip in a beat up, well ventilated 60. Google maps says 3,100 miles.
Hope to visit Las Vegas, Yosemite and Sequoia Nat Park on the way out.
I'm signed up for the Wed Wagon run. Looking forward to it!!

Question. Will there be someone with a Sat phone I can use as an emergency contact for my family? My 2 young kids and husband are traveling that week and if something happens I want them to be able to reach me. Thanks in advance.

Eric,
A buddy and I can help out with the pics this year...just emailed you for details. We're on the wagon run with Andy's group, it's only my second Rubicon trip but we both have full body DSLR camera's that take great shots despite our poor camera skills.

Just for :flush: and giggles, here's a pic of the 2013 (25th) Rubithon Wagon Run crew, most of them anyway. Great group of guys!

last year there were a few SAT phones on the trip.
If anything goes down, there's a few hundred people within an hour that will drop everything and help.

I'm sure if you need to make a call, someone usually finds a way to get thru.

A bunch of HAMs and repeaters are ready to get info _out_. She was asking about a number to call _in_.

Yep. That's what I was wondering. But I have my answer already. Thanks all! I can't wait!

Barring any emergencies, we have a pretty cool training / chat scheduled on Saturday in the Springs at about 1030. CalStar is going to fly in and we will demonstrate how to communicate with them using ham radios and then they will give a little chat and answer questions. So lets all hope Saturday the 21st is very uneventful in South Lake Tahoe!
