Gauging interest...

I’m around 200s regularly, nothing special about that.

But I’m in a position where I don’t have to get a cruiser in, done, and out to get another one in to keep money coming in. I can slowly work on things, and investigate and fix other things I find. That has lead me to some interesting things I find.

My question, would it be a good idea to post about the mostly negative things I see on a 200 itself (not aftermarket parts of vendors here), but trying to stay on maintenance and durability items.

Or, should I just keep my mouth shut like I’ve been doing. The problem with saying something doesn’t work well, is people get really emotional about it. And I don’t want to fight anymore, but I also like to not waste time and money, so I appreciate when other people share. I’ve never been about fighting online, I’m more of let’s talk it out face to face kinda guy.

Anyway, bad idea for a dedicated thread?
Everyone here respects what you got to say. You'll definitely get those that try to argue with you and could just ignore them, or let's others on here take care of the lightweights for ya haha.

I could see it being beneficial. Being something more of a PSA type thread, where you explain the common failure points and what to look out for?

+1 I think most grown-ups can handle a little constructive criticism. No sure what the appropriate thread title would be? Perhaps "Known 200 issues" and begin by listing the obvious ones like radiator. I'd be interested to hear your take on parts that get some abuse.

Please do it. Seems like I almost always learn something from your posts, you know your way around these trucks. Gaining knowledge from a knowledgeable source has always been important in my book, even if it goes against my initial thinking. I try to never be too proud to learn something new...would be much appreciated 👍

Out of all the forum members I have met or with whom I have spoken, you are one of the most knowledgeable, thoughtful, and well spoken Rob. You are also a really nice guy who loves to help others.

If ever there was a series of posts about the negatives about the 200 you would be a top choice to moderate.

Nothing is perfect, even a Land Cruise, so there should be no harm in discussing how we could identify and improve our trucks.

@Taco2Cruiser re dedicated issue thread.
I’ll help...with an obvious & common one:
-The software designer *decision* to allow non-critical error codes lock you out of essential, perfectly-functional tool—especially the ability to shift in or out of 4Lo. Old news, but would be a front-runner in any list of weird design flaws.

Evap code?
-No 4Lo.
Wheel-speed sensor iffy?
-No 4Lo
Maybe clearing codes gets you out...maybe it doesn’t.
Silly stuff, and potentially a major problem depending on where you happen to be at the time.

OK. Next? ;)

Rob, You have the Moderator seal of approval to share what you know :)

Anyone else’s gear shift move while normal driving in “D”. Thing rocks a good 1/4-1/2” back and forth.

Yep, that’s normal.

That’s the driveline moving around between the frame and the body moving on top of the frame. Since we still have cables that manually pull and push a lever on the side of the tranny to shift gears, the moving of the driveline can be seen on the shifter.

If the next generation of cruiser goes to shift by wire, that will go away.

rotella synth 0w-20 for $2.49/quart. seems like an insane deal, is this good for 200 series??

It meets spec, so it will serve your engine well for hundreds of thousands of miles. Run it with confidence.

All we need on a Toyota 5.7 is API SN. SN Plus has come along, but that is to deal with all the LSPI issues of small displacement, forced induction engine like the Ford EcoBoost.

API SP just got released and that is why all these cheep prices are coming out. To get rid of all the SN Plus oils to make way for the change to SP.

Sick of the same old boring 200 colors?

Nori green joins the MY21 LX570 exterior palette. Additionally, you can now spec the LX interior with peanut butter guts, errm I mean Glazed Caramel.

Now back to the regular complaints about the grille and terrible infotainment controls.

FYI "Nori" in Japanese is a kind of dried seaweed. That said, the Seaweed Green LC500(?) looks very nice.

HTH

Whoa that thing was bookin' it when it hit those trees. Ugh!

But that sort of thing happens all the time. I saw it happen right in front of me once when I was on the local rescue crew. '80s Toyota mini-truck on it's side on a steep road. Tow truck driver flopped it over on it's wheels, down the hill it went and smashed right into a police cruiser. I got in the rig and booked it out of there.

On a happier note re recovery...

Rough quote from Treasure of the Sierra Madre.... “Winches? We don’t have no winches. We don’t need no winches... I don’t have to show you any steeenking winches!”

Teamwork...!

Guess I'm just going to buy a bunch of straps and hope the people I'm wheeling with are as good as these folks. Definitely save a penny or too... hahaha

linky to worst please...:hillbilly:

The “worst” is subjective...but in my book, the winner goes to this one...
...But mainly because the poor ignorant dude insists that what he just did is... “what you do...you just go.” lol

Camera guy disagrees... :hillbilly:
