OEM BRAKE CALIPERS

Has anyone found a better stopping caliper set up for the fzj than OEM, I put remanned calipers on a few months ago hit the highway for 10K miles MOAB for a couple weeks, and when I just did EBC pads in anticipation of rolling west in a week or so, the remans were frozen I rebuilt the cylinders and want to up if at all possible. is there anything better??

I just bought the Napa calipers, front and rear. I know they are not OEM or even OEM remans but I have read a lot of good things about them. I plan to fit them next weekend so will have a bit of feedback for you then. Pads are EBC greens. Let's see how it works out..

I've heard the same, if I need to swap my calipers I will likely do these. There are lots of old threads about this and heard great things about Napa Remans and Cardone.

Ive heard very same from Otramm and hes likes attention to detail ie: packing Birfs with OEM yota grease. $$$$$$

Calipers are a pressure vessel. It will make no difference if you go OEM or an aftermarket OEM equivalent, as the cylinder bores will be the same size.
What you're looking for is a larger bore/piston caliper, which will require a larger master/booster to drive them properly. Brakes are a system, not just a bunch of parts.

I have these on my truck and have been very happy with them. They are even painted to keep the rust at bay.

This is correct. What’s nice about these sets are they come with new hardware too. Which is quite convenient.

Only thing I don’t like about these calipers: the banjo bolts are too long and the copper gaskets are of poor quality. I would reuse the OEM banjo bolts and get new 90430-10074 gaskets.

Im aware, I would love to up ALL the braking components But ive yet to find something where it all works together and fits under the hood as It should Ive contacted wilwood cardone etc. they have pieces Im not good enough to make my own braking setup as of yet.

Most braking system component changes are tradeoffs. There are only a few things that generally result in Pareto-ish improvement that you could look into:

Larger brake booster
Larger rotor diameter
Higher coefficient of friction pads

The difficulty that I have found trying to source better brakes for the 80 is that some things are not really upgrades like the Wilwood calipers most are fairly cheap, they don't have dust seals and are not expected to last long or in bad weather. They are good for track cars that get frequent brake maintenance but not ideal for a truck that is going offroad.

And then you have the way the 80 rotor bolts to the hub. So you would need to have a special adapter machined.

And then you have to match the piston bore of the new caliper that will accept the new rotor to the old piston bore so you don't have excessive brake travel, etc.

I pretty much have it sorted for a road going 80, but I wouldn't want calipers without dust seals on a truck that will see a lot of offroad.

Thanks to recommendation from @beno I have napa eclips calipers(all 4) waiting to be installed this saturday.

My LX450 is my daily driver/road trip vehicle/off road truck.
I run 315s on the street, 36 Swampers on the trail.
I also service my brakes yearly. This includes an OEM rebuild kit, OEM pads, and a full fluid flush on all 4 corners.
I still have the ABS system and LSPV, but the LSPV arm is bent for max rear brakes.
A few years back I changed all 4 rotors out with new OEM and that made a big difference. Remember, it's all about heat dissipation. The more surface area, the more heat transfer, and the larger the mass has to be to dissipate the heat. That's why I never cut rotors.

Larger diameter rotors along with larger pads will make a difference, as long as the rotors can deal with the heat. Honestly, an OEM system that's in good repair will stop the truck well.

Save those NAPA receipts for the eclipse reman calipers! I believe you get a 2 year warranty and one of my eclipse caliper pistons seized up (probably from mud/sand and not cleaning) so I had both calipers replaced for free. The warranty said you needed to write a detailed description and blah blah blah but the guys at the store just told me to bring them in, just needed the old receipts.
