With the iPhone, many of the cheapest BT dongles won't work. But now that the Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy ones have come out recently, they seem to work fine. Just look for BT 4.0 LE in the description and make sure you look at the reviews to see what others are saying.

I think this $22 BT module will work for iPhone 7 & higher with iOS 10 or 11.

I ended up initially getting a cheap wifi reader (like the one you linked that is $13) with my previous vehicle when the only other choices for iPhone compatible were over than $100. Only drawback is that you can't search web while connected like you can with BT 4 LE tool.

As for apps - I love OBD Fusion - especially if you get the full suite of Toyota tools add on. It will pretty much tell you everything that is available on the vehicle's ECU and bus network as far as I can tell. I could see even such info as what the level sensors for the airbag system were currently at, the tire pressures, etc.

I got one of those ~$20 versions from Amazon when we got our RX and it wasn't even able to link to the vehicle - total waste of time

got the Ultragauge instead - has worked flawlessly with both our RX and our GX

and although Ultragauge says you can link two different iPhones, at any given time only one iPhone will immediately respond to the gauge - if you want to link the second iPhone, you'll have to go through the "link-this-iPhone-procedure" again - which is not a big deal, just gotta know - it will unlink the first iPhone, so the link-this-iPhone-dance may continue, depending on your circumstances

we have hubby's iPhone linked to the RX's ultraguage, and mine to the GX's ultragauge, so :meh:

Will the ultra gauge connect to an iPad?

It should. I will find out when mine gets here lol

I went through the Bluetooth and WiFi dongles for a while. I found that my iPad was too big and in the way and I didn’t want my phone tied up with the apps. So I run a scan gauge 2 now and like the dedicated read outs. Also I could never get an app based reader to give me transmission temps but scangauge 2 easily did.

For anyone that is trying to get Transmission Temps, I believe I have OBD Fusion II to show them. You will need to get the 8.99 "Toyota Add on" for the app.

So I have a question. The OBD connector that I have now in my 100 is Bluetooth. I see a lot though now that are Wi-Fi. Does that mean that you need to be on a Wi-Fi connection like at home or that just means that you connect your phone through the dongle through your WiFi settings? Like can I still use the app while I’m driving down the road If I have one of the WiFi versions without using my phone’s hotspot? I’m confused on what the difference Is.

@sleepycruiser, the wifi signal is transmitted from the connector itself, and your app is connecting to it. I used the Kobra wifi model with "Auto Doctor" free app. Connected no problem, but there is only a limited amount of info available from the free app.

Do you happen to know what the differences are between A/T Oil Temperature 1, A/T Oil Temperature 2, and A/T Oil Temperature 3?
