looks cool
that will definately improve the off camber manners
now to just get my 60 done.
when's moab?....

Dave, when you do your 60 axle you should start a new thread and document the whole process. It really is a very cool mod and not really any more work for someone thats building an axle anyway.

just a thought

WOW!!! nice job

I like the the stance, if you want to go even wider, I decided to spring for not only an extended short side but also an extended 60 long side so front 60
housing can be widened 5 1/4" inches too. If that's not enough you can still add spacers

No offense to you or your product but the stock thickness housings are just not strong enough to hold up to me, my axle is smiling badly and not in a good way. If I stick with toyota parts i'm going to have to man up for a diamond. I dig that someone makes that part though  For somone that needs a little more width, and I think almost every cruiser does, and isn't going to jump it, it is perfect.

Oh and thanks for the props, 61" and 40s is the perfect width, It has really worked out well for me.

I'd guess you like getting airborne. I've never seen an axle housing bend during rock crawling. For most of us I think the stock housing holds up fine, but you are right, for comp rock racing I'd prefer the 1/2" wall front dana 60 setup.
Are you planning to switch

I am definitely headed for a D60 front, yota parts just arn't up to the task anymore :frown: Broke a rear pinion and destroyed my front locker this last weekend :meh: I can't afford to do it yet though boo.

Okay I got the front axle assembled (mocked up for brake plumbing) and measured it,

the WMS to WMS is 61" exactly!

What hub assembly and disk do you run on that setup champ?

I've already got an 80 rear. It's wide! I'm running a 70 front but its too narrow and I'm planning on running 39's so I need the right front axle to build and put money into. The 70 has the 8" high pinion and it hits my exhaust on full stuff. Not much room to move the exhaust. I'm going to long, lock, cut and turn the 60 anyways so the sleve will be just one more weld in my process.

ZCRUZ:

Why is a 80 series front axel not an option to use under your FJ40 since you already have the rear? I have something similar in mind. Just wondering if I there is something I am not looking.

not sure about ZCRUZ in particular, but the most common reason for not using an 80front is the steering. there aren't any hysteer setups, other than slee's.

That would be sick! Sign me up for one of those two. Then I can lose this 80 rear with the wrong offset. So glad your on top of things dave.

i am researching putting an 80 series axel on my 40 to widen the tracks, is that a good idea? what is the wrong offset? sorry for my ignorance..... thanks :bounce::bounce2:

is anybody still doing this extender sleeve?

Great timing to resurrect this thread. Am collecting parts to build up a shortened 14 bolt for the rear - and wasn't really looking forward to outboarding the front to put in a 60 housing. Mace was trying to describe the sleeve option - but wasn't until I read this thread that it made sense!

Excellent idea.
