The sleeves are 50.00 each, I have a few of the short side axles left however they were made by bobby long in his super-birfield configuration so they'd need to be run with his super birfield. Those are 145.00 ea

not quite sure on all the longfield terminology, so could you clarify this for me?

the special short side axle that you are selling is of the same quality (made by bobby) and will work in conjunction with a newly purchased 30-spline chromoly super set from bobby, right?

thanks man, i'm just makin sure i'm understandin everything right, ha ha

I think you've got it right, Malphrus.

The special short side axle shaft is the same as a regular short side 30 spline shaft, just 2-3/4" longer to work with Dave's bushing.

nice work on the axle....

i just had a quick question... whats the axle housing diameter on an 80 series....

couldnt you take the 80 end of an axle and slide them in to a 60 series axle or a 40 ... to retain inner axle lengths but upgrade to 80 birfs...

thats if the axle diameter is the same in the 80 series...

thought about that after i had to cut apart an axle to salvage my cut an turn... the inner sleeve in the axle was tacked on the inside

80 birfs ar not enough of an upgrade over 30 spline longs. And the knuckles are kind of a pita to deal with right now due to steering constraints..

Any body ever make a front axle out of a rear housing? The I.D. the same on them?

Flip the housing and notch it for the ring gear.Hmmm.. Not sure how'd ya match the rear.Spacers I guess.Just a thought.

Good stuff, the spacer and all. Makes perfect sense and dosen't take a ton of dough...

I still wanna see the low budget notch for SOA without going outboard.

Anyone?

The short answer is that you cannot notch the front housing enough to center the axle. If you do not have a problem with an offset axle, then it is a possibility..

I'm glad I didn't know that when I started the project on my BJ74. I thought the frame width was the same as a 40. It must be a tiny bit wider because my 60 series axle is dead center.

Hey lowenbrau, That doesn't look too bad. But how did you bolt the spring on the inside of the passenger leaf? pics?

"official" trackwidth of a 70 series is 20mm wider than a 40 series.. That being said, I do not trust the numbers I just spouted.

LB, can you measure the inside to inside dimension of your leafs as close to the pumpkin as you can?

I'll get a stock 40 measurement as well.

That would be sick! Sign me up for one of those two. Then I can lose this 80 rear with the wrong offset. So glad your on top of things dave.

I've got another batch that will be ready monday or tuesday.
One suggestion since you'll have the knuckles cut loose put in whatever caster correction might be needed to aaleviate any front driveline issues. Most of thr lifted 40's I see are close to binding at droop
at the front pumkin. Before I installed these I had 4 degree shims up front ( part of the shackle reversal)
I added 10 degrees of caster which eliminated the shim and picked up the pinion an additional 6 degrees
taking a load off the front u joint

hey dave,

i'll be gettin a sleeve and inner axle from you at some point this spring when i get to the front axle on my build.
