I love the ambulance doors that aren't recessed in the tub.
Oh yeah, note the amby doors with rounded bottom corners and the fancy wire guard for the (nonexistent) license plate light.
That makes the rear doors (and maybe the front wing window doors) 1981-newer.

Did wing windows disappear globally for a few years, then get reintroduced for 79 or 81 LX models? Seems like Ive only seen those doors on 81-newer Oz trucks.

??? this is not a discrepency.... they made their own vin plate from scratch

I was being kind and trying not to be a hater...that said you can take a 40 out of the jungle, but it is very difficult and expensive to take the jungle back out of the 40. But look at where the bidding is,

I just added our discussion link on BAT, I just had to do it and truly believe the potential new owner needs to know what we think about this cruiser.

To the seller, this might be a great 40 but it is not being even remotely described correctly. If you would like help writing an accurate description, there are many people here that are willing to help with the details.

since you included the thread.... let me show them what vin tags look like on the cruisers... and where to find the frame vin:

I want the windwing fat doors.

The rest is too odd.

I have that exact engine in my shop right now and its a 65

What? Doesn't look like the engine in my 65. Valve cover is different, thermostat housing is different. Manifolds are different, or did they not use Siamese ports on all of the early f engines?

I think it's a Bitsa.

an FYI cruisers are heavily stolen in columbia/panama ... those areas... its not to say the current owner stole the cruiser... but... to make a new vin plate and not a good one either *somebody* was dishonest

I would be very surprised to find a vin on the frame... probably got zipped off... or another fabrication

this statement is also a concern: "A serial number has been etched onto the windows and carved into some of the body panels, and is most likely a security measure for theft prevention in Colombia."

:meh:

there is just SOOOOO many red flags

registered and titled in nebraska... but where are the plates? inspection stickers on the window? (they do have these dont they in nebraska) .... bought it out to CA to sell it because the owner isnt computer savy?????? but he can flatbed it out to ca? because there is no inspection and no plates?

Do we have someone in Santa Monica, Ca. to see this in person? Mainly the frame# It looks like it does have power steering, and a nice late model steering wheel. John

Interesting, I'm not sure I'd ever fold that windshield down ;)

Here is what BaT said just now:

Thanks for the comments and feedback.

This FJ40 was submitted as a 4-speed 1978 model, but it clearly has parts from several different production years.

We have reached out to the seller to provide clarity on the specification. It was thought that the non-USA origin might have accounted for different components, but the number of pre-1973 items on this truck mean it is worth clarifying the frame VIN and other details.

The seller has been helpful so far and will post his responses here. We love to see this level of detail posted in the comments thread thanks to the expertise of the readers. If this truck was listed on eBay or elsewhere, the buyer might not have ever known about any of these differences.

If the truck is actually pre-’75 and can be titled as such, that might be a big win for California buyers.
Thanks and stay tuned!

I'm glad BAT commented, hopefully we can get some VIN clarification. I have a '78 USA model and the differences between the two are significant, non-US models had some minor differences but not to this extent. I seriously doubt this is a true '78 model.
