Edit: and yes to the offset. Mine is 1” to the driver’s side from center.

Are you going to weld up all the extra holes in the dash since it like you’re going to be re painting a bunch of the body work anyways?

Are you using the FJ60 transmission mount? I didn’t cut my floor at all and ended up using the propeller mount on the one piece Tcase and retained all of the vacuum shift linkage. The 60 mount either pushed everything too high or hung too low.
Moving everything to the passenger side may give you front DS clearance issues too.
Are you running a stock steering box?

No. GM column to Saginaw. Even with that I have less than 1/2” clearance on the shaft.

Gearbox clearance and rad fan clearance. Top of intake is in line with the Rad cap. 3* currently on drivetrain. May up the front by a degree or two. I could move the t case side over to the driver but maybe an 3/4”-1” but then I would still need 1/2” or so for the for vac to not hit the frame.

1/4” or so off the frame and sits over top about 1 1/2”. And it’s the fj60 mount cut down. When Don ordered the parts they did not have any fj40 style in for the split case for a few weeks. So he opted to have this sent.

They had run out of the transmission to transfer case adapter, but for using the split case we had to go with the FJ60 crossmember and cut to fit.

I also recommended he run a split case since they are so much better. Man I think it's that stock steering box that's causing the majorifty, I always run the 60/80 series box and that would let you move everything over another 2" and stay parrallel to the vehicle centerline. I know that's a big change though

This is a good example of why you gotta plan the whole project from the begining

I dunno, moving it over isnt that big a deal as opossed to settling for steering or placement you dont like. If I didnt have the old Orion I would go splitcase.
Never came across cutting floor for tcase, I like the idea of a flat belly, I have a 22 gal rear tank by NWMP you can have if you want to lose the under seat dealio.

He already had the electric steer into the stock box. Ls swap was also a change instead of the 2F. Otherwise we’d have put something else in for steering. But I do appreciate you taking the time to help and give advice. Not sure you get enough credit across all the platforms you give tips and are willing to answer people’s questions and help.

for what it's worth I don't think the ground clearance is a huge deal with his intended usage with stock springs and stock-ish tire size. Maybe I can go outside and measure my completely stock 71's ground clearance :hmm:

This is exactly the right answer- build to intended use. A great driver that will see the occasional trail.

I will say that a flat belly is NOT common and the tcase, 1 piece or split typically hang below bottom of frame, some like 3" or so. Put a brace on the skid plate so you can turtle on it and the clearance is a non issue.

@FloridaLife I'm sorry to see these continued hiccups. Frustrating as hell especially as I am familiar with your wants and wishes. Fingers crossed this resolves easily 🤞

Do we need to slightly relocate the steering box, cut the steering shaft, and add a u-joint and/or rag joint?
