Drivetrain For Sale
Well, I have REALLY been looking forward to installing the 2F engine and 4 speed transmission and rebuilt transfer case (at least that's what the seller told me when I bought it) and rare overdrive unit into my FJ40, but I think my wife may be right and after all the surgery I've had, including multiple low back surgeries and both hips (many years ago) especially if caught in traffic the using the clutch and shifting gears might become too painful. So, I am selling the 2F drivetrain, and will also be listing it in the classifieds. It is a 1978 2F with electronic ignition that I was told was running when pulled out for a Chevy V8 swap, and a 4 speed transmission, and a rebuilt transfer case (at least that's what I was told) and the super rare Overdrive unit. I had REALLY been looking forward to playing with that. The manual for the Overdrive unit says it will get you a 25% reduction in engine RPMs which would certainly help a lot. And, you can use the Overdrive with any gear, high and/or low. I am asking for exactly what I paid, $2,800 plus shipping. Shipping we did from Indiana via Fastenal's "Blue Lane Freight" which ships pallet loads and it was a little over $200 to Central Florida. Below are some pics:

Parts for Sale
It occurred to me that I won't need these other parts either. I'll go ahead and list them below and start doing some research as to what a fair price would be, and then I'll list them in the Classifieds with pricing. But I thought I would go ahead and put them in here in case any of you might be interested in something you can let me know.

•F air cleaner that has been powder coated black.

•New in packaging adapter to mount this air cleaner on a Weber carb

•Aisan carburetor (I'm sure it needs to be rebuilt)

•Starter

•Alternator

•Cylinder head assembly that people on Mud said if I did nothing but put this head on my 2F engine it would increase the compression of the 2F (comes with the valve cover and rockers and stuff too)

•Thermostat housing (I was told to hold onto it as a spare because those crack)

•Fuel pump

•Clutch

•Clutch fork (I'm told this is the stronger clutch fork)

•3 aftermarket grab handles - 2 of them are the discontinued SOR grab handles to go above the glove box or wherever you want them

Looking in my spare parts I also have a new, still in the sealed package from SOR, Oil Pump.

I spent some time searching online to get an idea of pricing out there. I will probably wait until next weekend to list these in the classifieds because the Super Bowl is about to start, but I'll copy & paste the items below with the prices I found online. I do NOT expect to get these prices, but if someone sees something they would like to have, please feel free to make an offer:

•F air cleaner that has been powder coated black: Cruiser Corps $595 and on Ebay rusty ones went for $200 - $300

•New in packaging adapter to mount this air cleaner on a Weber carb: $52 Cruiser Corps

•Aisan carburetor (I'm sure it needs to be rebuilt): Found used in multiple places, used, for $150+

•Still in the sealed plastic bag from SOR - Oil Pump: Classic Cruisers $150

•Starter: Used on Ebay & Cruiser Yard $90 - $150

•Alternator: Used on Ebay for $60 - $120

•Cylinder head assembly that people on Mud said if I did nothing but put this head on my 2F engine it would increase the compression of the 2F (comes with the valve cover and rockers and stuff too): I only found rebuilt ones online and they were very expensive. Make me an offer.

•Thermostat housing (I was told to hold onto it as a spare because those crack): Used on Cruiser Corps for $120

•Fuel pump: Used on BTB for $50

•Clutch: Used on Cruiser Corps for $150, and up to $250 on Ebay

•Clutch fork (I'm told this is the stronger clutch fork): $70 on Cruiser Corps, $111 BTB, $195 Ebay

•3 aftermarket grab handles - 2 of them are the discontinued SOR grab handles to go above the glove box or wherever you want them: $120 on Ebay

That’s a lot of reading to do….great job!

unless you can with reasonable fix your 40 engine, I would go for the Chev conversion. Its a natural.

@Captn Conch: I've got a good to go FJ40 2F drivetrain with a rebuilt 4 speed transmission + rebuilt transfer case and a super rare Overdrive unit. But, due to WAY too many low back and hip surgeries I'm going to swap to have an automatic transmission.

@FloridaLife it’s a very common swap in the 40/45/55 series. I have only driven one back in the later 1970’s I remember it just being a smooth power pull all thru the gears and road use was great. There are enthusiast of all kinds. It makes a lot of sense to follow through with this plan. Especially getting to enjoy the ride.

I recently had a 40 year friend slip on the ice of the running board of his pickup. He’s 78, broke his femur in 3 places and had to be airlifted to the trauma center. He passed out from the pain. When he was shot in Vietnam (twice) he got back to the US, learned to walk and was about to become a charter member of a world famous motorcycle club. He changed course, stayed a solo rider since he was 14 and is one of the biggest “enthusiasts” I know.

Doc told him… no more riding his 1100lb ultra classic. If you wanna ride next year, go with a trike if at all.

Moral of that story; “ going to hell in a bucket, but at least i’m enjoying the ride🎶. Grateful Dead

Make that swap and enjoy the hell out of it.. “we will never pass this way again’.🎶. Seals & Crofts

OUCH! Many years ago I had a cousin that was a great golfer and on the PGA tour. Even won a brand new convertible at one event and took me for a ride. One day they were up on a ladder cleaning out the rain gutters and fell, breaking their femur and the bone came through the skin & pants and stuck in the ground like a tent stake. This was way out in the country and before cell phones so they were stuck there for hours before someone happened to stop by and got them to a hospital. They lost the leg.

Sometimes it's easy to get feeling discouraged with all the pain, but then I don't have to think very hard to remember people I know that have it worse than me. I have a lot to be thankful for! As a wise friend recently told me, it's all about perspective. I hope everyone has a great day!

Just the one. I was born and raised in East Texas, so my grasp of the English language and proper grammar ain't none too good professor.
I was in New Orleans recently and learned some new fun words. I must sound like I'm from Cali because that's what I kept getting asked. 😅 It took me a bit to get the accent - when they would let it slip, they would hide it for some reason, but I loved it - example it took me a couple times to learn what sounds like "y'all" was them saying "your". There was a bunch of parades and road closures, I got asked by a cop where I was going and pointed and he said "ya n'ain't". I had to ask him - it's short for "no you ain't". I had a blast!

Radiator Question to LS Swappers
I have a brand new still in the box OEM Toyota radiator that I bought from cruisermatt for my 2F. Since I have decided to do an LS swap in order to get an automatic transmission, will the Toyota radiator keep the LS cool, or do I need to go with something else?

Thanks for the input.

Maybe. Depends how hard you push the V8 and the local air temps you are doing it at. The back of the napkin consideration is 250 to 350 cubic in is like a 40% increase. I was hoping to do a 283 so that's like 14%. I bought a brass 4 core to replace the stock 3 core, so like 33%. Things are not that simple but for back of napkin I think it points the way.

Thank you Charlie.

@cruisermatt - I know you and your team do plenty of LS swaps. What are your thoughts on using the new OEM Toyota radiator for the 2F on an LS?
