As stupid as it sounds, any tips for routing sensor wires behind the dash to the clock location?

There are existing holes in the firewall on Driver and Passenger side, but I haven’t found a good path from either to the clock area

@Lutz Auto -
Also, feature request:

Add the ability to overwrite the SPLASH file from microsd remotely so we can update it the same way we can update the firmware.

I routed out of the passenger side (LHD) firewall grommet. I suggest bundling the wires in a loom and you can route it over to under the glove box. Then use a larger gauge single wire routed through the firewall grommet from the outside, tape it to the end of the sensor wires and pull them through.

You could do the same with the driver side grommet if that is better.

@Lutz Auto --> Love the multigauge with the turbo for boost, AFR and the outside temps. I'm still trying to figure out a mounting solution for the MAP sensor, but so far, so good.

2 feature requests for the wideband (lambda):
1. Would you consider replacing "LAMB" with the Lambda symbol for aesthetics?
2. Can you force the output to show 2 decimal places at all times?
I would like to see 1.00 not just 1 because the change from 3 digits (0.98) to 1 digit catches my attention oddly.

I like the Lambda symbol idea. I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of that. I will look into the 2 decimal place issue and fix it. Most of the gauges don't need the decimal place so I must have missed this.

Honestly, you did all the hardwork to get the product to market. There probably aren't too many people running wideband O2 yet :)

Another request and follow-up question:

1. [Feature Request] One decimal place on Boost Pressure would be nice if it's possible to fit (currently shows whole number only). Shrinking the font size on unit (psi) could provide more space.

2. [Question] What is the expected boot time to reach screen with sensors? It takes about 45-50 sec currently with a custom splash image

1. I will look into this and potentially add it with the request above.
2. It typically takes about 10 seconds if it connects to the OBD2 dongle. If it has trouble connecting, it will take longer. If you are not using OBD2, be sure to turn the Bluetooth off in the settings menu. This will make the unit start much faster.

Another request:

Outside temperature data is super granular (instantaneous) but that I noticed the value oscillating between values a lot (82 -> 83 -> 82).

I think that time granularity is good for TPS, Boost, Lambda but unnecessary for outside temp and even detracts from other gauges due to value shifting frequently.

My recommendation would be to use a moving average over like 15-30 sec period to smooth the volatility in the value.

I’m wondering if my Splash image is slowing down the loading time.

Confirmed that the long loading time was due to Bluetooth searching. When I have the Bluetooth OBDII transmitter connected, boot time is ~15 sec

@Lutz Auto any thought on adapting this product for use on 3rd gen 4Runners? I haven’t compared them side to side, but they have a very similar clock to the 95+ 80 series and are prone to failure. Seems like it could be a very popular item. I know I would buy one.

1. Can the below screen be modified or another screen added to not have the graph but rather another input? I have 3 gauges hooked up and would like to see them all on this page. I like the font/color scheme compared to the white 4 input screen. Example below with option to select each input.

Sorry for the late replies here.

@thatcabledude
The 4Runner clock is very similar. I have been meaning to look into this further. I suspect that the screen won't quite fit, but maybe another screen would. I will see if I can get a hold of a bezel.

I will work on a dark mode option that will turn the 4 gauge screen into this type of theme.

Do you have the flexibility to add a screen with only 3 gauges?

Are you still planning on a product for the earlier model dash clock? My clock just died

This is something that I have wanted to do, but am not sure when I will have time to revisit it. Finding a good touch screen the correct size is the challenge.

Introducing the Lutz Auto Multigauge system for 95-97 FZJ80s.

This completely plug and play multi-gauge is available for 95-97 FZJ80/LX450 with 1FZFE Gasoline engines. This is a full featured OBD2 compatible touch screen gauge system that replaces the factory clock. This product is plug and play and uses a simple Bluetooth OBD2 dongle to transmit OBD2 data wirelesly to the screen. What makes this different from other OBD2 gauges is that it ALSO accepts external sensors and includes a built in inclinometer!! Forget all of the separate gauges, gauge pods and multitude of wiring that goes along with them cluttering up your dash.

Trans Temp and Oil Pressure are NOT transmitted over OBD2 in the FZJ80/LX450. Our kit has additional inputs for these sensors (additional sensor kits sold separately). Transmission temp is very important for pulling grades or towing. In addition to transmission temperature, we also offer oil pressure, exhaust gas temperature, and boost as external gauge packages.

This multi-gauge accepts wireless updates that use no special software. Any device with a web browser can install updates while the product is installed in the dash! No internet or wires needed. In the future, we can easily provide more features or improvements which can simply be flashed into the unit.

Don't like the blatant Lutz Auto branding on the splash screen? No problem, you can change the startup screen to any image you want by inserting a micro SD card with a custom splash screen that can be created in any image editor (even MS Paint).

**Note this device does not actually have a clock... adding a clock makes things more complicated and we chose to leave the clock out. Most people have a clock on the stereo and won't miss the original time piece.

Features:

Plug and Play (no wire cutting needed)
OBD2 Live Data via Bluetooth (see below)
Optional External Gauges (see below)
Inclinometer
Backlight dims automatically when headlights are turned on
OBD2 dongle sleeps after 30min of inactivity and will not drain battery
Full featured settings with ability to change units etc.

Whats in the Box:
  • Multigauge touch screen clock replacement unit
  • OBD2 Bluetooth Dongle
  • Detailed instructions
OBD2 Live data gauges:
  • RPM
  • Coolant Temp
  • Intake Air Temp
  • MAF sensor reading
  • Engine Load Vehicle
  • Speed (calibratable for larger tires/gearing)
  • Timing Advance
  • Throttle Position
  • Short Term Fuel Trim
  • Long Term Fuel Trim
Optional Extra Gauge Inputs (Gauge Kits Sold Separately):
  • Transmissin Temp
  • Oil Pressure (Coming Soon)
  • Exhaust Gas Temp (Any quality K-Type Thermocouple EGT Sender will work)
  • Boost (Coming Soon)
  • 1 extra for possible expansion

NOTE: Please choose either left hand or right hand drive option. The hardware is the same, but the screen will be flipped 180 degrees in the firmware. The firmware can be changed via wireless update at anytime if changing from RHD to LHD for some reason.

Warnings/Disclaimer:

  • Do not operate the unit while driving
  • Operating this Multigauge screen while driving could lead to accidents and serious injuries. As with all other vehicle gauges or instruments, this unit should be used and viewed only when safe to do so. The automobile driver’s attention should always be focused on safe driving.
  • This product is to be used as a reference only and the readings are not to be relied upon for accuracy. Lutz Auto is not responsible for any miscalibration or issues resulting from incorrect readings.
very cool. Looking at this with turbo setup instead of gauges. This is very descreet and love the use of the clock space.
I've been scanning the 6 pages here and website link install pdf but can't find if there is a alarm option or if an audible option can be added?

@Mjones

There are no alarms for extreme values. This would be a nice feature to add one day. We are swamped right now with some projects, so we aren't planning to add more features in the near future, but I do love having all of the data available to me in a small form factor that is easy to install. I use mine all the time. I tend to watch my gauges a little too much. This product was really born out of something I wanted for my own 80 series.

Makes total sense. It's a hell of a replacement for manual gauges. Are you running anything for black Friday? I want to buy your catalog for stuff I don't have yet :)

Happy New Year!
Any updates on the dark mode multi-gauge screen? Are you able to add a page with only 3 inputs instead of 4?

I am hoping to get to the dark mode firmware relatively soon. I was actually just talking about this the other day. I will also look into adding 3 gauges instead of of having the set EGT/Boost screen.
