Picked up some FJ62 axles.

For those with the 5.3-H55F

What type of gearing are you running? I was thinking of putting 4:88 since that's what I had in my mini truck with both 33's and 35's and it was great with the 4cyl. I've read that the first gear is really steep with higher gearing, and that the 4:10's would be enough for 33's and possibly 35's.
Thoughts?

Datalig27,

I have the 5.3 and H55 with 4.11 gears and 33" tires, but it hasn't moved yet. I think the 4.11's will be just about perfect for the 5.3 combo. I used ARB lockers, also.

I was thinking it would be just right as well. ARB lockers will be in for me as well.

Thanks for the input

So no real updates. The pig hasn't moved and i've done absolutely nothing to it but buy a new car cover.

I am planning on heading to the local scrap yard this weekend and see about picking up a 2uzfe since the 5.3 vortec is out of the question. I would like to put a manual transmission in as well but i'm not 100% dedicated to the idea.
Also gonna be ordering parts for the axle rebuild this weekend.
Gotta love tax returns!

You'll need every penny, plus some, for a 2UZ/MT....

2UZ-FE manual transmissions were a non-US UZJ100 offering only and limited to the H151F MT. As far as I know, they were all HF2A AWD transfer cases and even the corresponding MT ECU required ABS/WSS to function.

Yeah I figured as much which is why i'm not 100% committed to the idea. I just really don't like driving automatics personally.
I've also thought of the 1UZ and 3FE swap. I'm not a big diesel guy so those aren't much of a consideration.

Alright so I got tired of waiting for garage space to work on the 55 so I decided to do what I can while its still out back. Pulled out all the extra parts and removed whatever else I could. Not much left to do before the cab is ready to come off the frame. I'm just gonna clean up the frame paint it, and undercoat the cab once the rust is fixed.

My initial thought of the rust not being so bad still holds true so far. The roof, body mounts, and rear quarters are about the extent of the damage so far. Those will be first to be addressed.

It was pretty awesome being able to finally work on the pig, I felt like a kid on christmas taking it apart! Got so tied up almost forgot about dinner with my lady!

I won't be using those racks, so if anyone needs or wants some let me know! I think they're gun racks?

Also The vents on the side of the fenders, was there two different options from factory to have fake vents and actual vents? or was one aftermarket?

Ha ha, don't forget about dinner w/ your woman for a date w/ a Piggy. Your woman will be like "Ah hell no!" And then you will have to queue up the Barry White music...

Oh yeah!

Yupp that's what she said today when I decided to work on the pig again instead of doing who knows what. But gotta take advantage of the time off and good weather.

So i've been working on the fenders and the front piece, I think its called the dog house? Got all the old paint and bed coating off of it and hit it with some rustoleum paint. The fenders were rough on the bottom portion so got that all cut out and replaced. I really wanted to use Bob's pieces for this but the funds weren't there and I had some extra sheet metal so went and did it myself.

I did find one piece in the floor rusted through right under the passenger bench seat. I was really hopeful that there wasn't any under the mats, but I was wrong!
Got the interior and dash stripped out, and need to remove what I believe is a heat/ sound deadening material? Any advice on removing this, I know it can be a pain in the butt to do.

Lastly, can anyone point me in the right direction to find the material that goes in between the dog house and the firewall?

And some pics

Try a piece of dry ice on the floor mat. It freezes it and you can chip it off.

How many mounting holes does the steering box have? Maybe an FJ60 box?

Never thought of that, I'll have to give it a try. Thanks!

And i'm not sure I'll have to look again when I get into the garage

I just stripped the floor on my '78 myself today after getting a wild hair. I used a flat pry bar, a flathead screwdriver, and lots of elbow grease. Most of it chipped up just fine, but some parts needed a little extra persuasion.

That looks like an Astrovan box. The coupler threw me off a bit tho.
