Hello RoscoFJ73,

You are right. It's got a lot of power, about 220 HP at 4,600 or so rpm. You do feel a kick on first gear, no matter how softly you try... Aside from that, it accelerates smoothly and provides a nice ride. And fuel consumption does not hurt your pocket.

Needless to say, there is plenty of power to go up and down and through rough terrain. After the photo I drove up to 12,000 ft on a mountain trail. Other 4x4s went on four wheel drive, having a hard time climbing, I didnot. On the way down, I got stuck in a small mud puddle; H4 got me out, no need for low range. A nice ride indeed.

At a point I considered portal axles rather than a lift, but none of the options available from either Unimogs or Volvos seemed good enough to me. I am not sure the extra welding and plumbing required is worth the effort.

I have put in some extra tools and added some creature comforts like a cooler and a bottle holder. An air compressor is on the list.

However, bigger tires remain an option...;)

newly joined but long time reader

G'day all, I'm a long time forum reader but only joined today. Just trying to get away from some Aussie forums as they are too narrow minded.
I run a 91' LJ78 EX5. 235/85 R16 tyres, That's about 32.5".
30mm lift with Bundera springs. The front coils didn't fit the base plate so I cut em (illegal in Queensland) and fitted 30mm coil spacer. It also rides on RAW 4x4 3 way adjustable RFX shocks. I am running a Chinese copy CT20 with boost controller and a 2H fan and fan clutch for better cooling.
I just fitted new injectors and reco pump and also a mech temp gauge in place of the original temp sender.
5L-E swap is on my wish list.

All up it's a good little performer. Beats a mates KZJ95 Prado off road all the time.

Let me introduce myself,
Im 35 years old an a fanatic offroader since i was a kid, working at a specializes Landcruiser store in Holland, next to this i'm an offroad guide for the heavy trips......

Im driving an old BJ70 (1997) witch took me for 420.000 km and still going strong! Made some adjustmends to this Toyo like 4.88 diff's with original cable lockers, header incl. much more technical adjustments to the engine about 120 HP (but still no turbo !) , reased springs and shocks, now driving on 9.00R16 (255/100/16), the rest is al usual stuff like winch, snorkel, roofrack, en so on.

I enjoy reading al the stuff and mayby i can be a helping hand in the problems....

ps. excuses for my englisch...

Regards
Mike

Beautiful your Land Cruiser :steer: Mike, your toy what engine use? 3B and 120 hp??? or use 1hz engine??? congratulations for excellent machine ,

I just bought this rig from a friend of mine and am addicted to wheeling. It's a 1988 BJ74 , SOA, 35" boggers, front and rear factory cable lockers, 13BT, 5-speed manual. I've just ordered 4.88 gears and want to replace the PTO winch with an electric winch hidden up under a Bullbar type bumper. This was a great trail rig when I bought it and want to make sure that it spends as much time up in the mountains as possible. I'm new to Landcruisers and I am sure I will need a lot of help with part interchangeability and advice on different suspension set-ups.

Nice Toy!!! :steer:... with Pto Winch, Factory Cable Lockers and more..., Soft-Top Rules!!!

Hi, the VM is that the Italian VM Motori motor. How bad is it if it's the one I mean.? I was looking at transplanting one out of a Jeep as nothing could be worse than a Toyota L series.

Welcome Josep .. please create a thread in the diesel section and let us help with the 1HZ instalation in your 70 series Cruiser .. I was 2 times in Barcelona year ago .. nice place !

Adeu ! ( not sure if is the right way to write it .. but you catch it )

Hi Guys,
also just joined up and stuck some pictures of my 78 series troopy on the "post pics thread". I live and work in Ghana, where there are plenty cruisers, but no recreational scene as such. Lulo was asking if Ghana is safe? Yes! Safest country in West Africa. Getting stuff for the cruiser takes a bit of forward planning though, but despite this the mods run below :-)

Had it since new in early 2007, I was fortunate to get one of the last old shapes before they went all modern - wouldn't have said no to the Aussie spec V8 turbo but! Future stuff to do is possibly suspension, where I am looking at various options, and totally undecided. TJM front bar and some home made side step replacement sliders will probably be on the agenda, and still have a big list of interior mods for touring.

Have been very impressed with the turbo kit I stuck on it. Anyway, glad to be on iH8MUD, huge amount of tech knowledge on here!
