Finally decided to register but have been prowling mud for answers for a while.

I have an '86 BJ70 (3B + turbo) which is my first 4x4. I've enjoyed it but it's also been a bit tricky for me. I think the head gasket's shot and as a teenager I can't say I've got experience in replacing one.

Hi! I just joined because tonight I am purchasing a 1988 LJ70 2LT. http://www.milanuncios.com/todoterreno-de-ocasion/toyota-land-cruiser-bj70-157036227.htm
this will be my first one. I have owned a 2002 Tundra and a 1998 4runner, but never this. I now I will be crawling this site for information in the future! I live in Southern Spain for the moment and the VIN says it was built in Japan. it says the owner replaced cylinder head and cam shift before I bought it. After market AC installed as well and a snorkle. I don't know what I will do with her in the future, but for now I'm just excited to be a part of this community now and get to know her a little better

Welcome to Cruiserland and congrats on a "proper" LC - one from Spain! My BJ 73 lived in Cordoba on an olive farm for its first 28 years.

Awesome! I don't know the whole history of mine(language barriers prevent asking too many questions of the previous owner) but I am planning on bringing her back to the USA (if we get station back home again) I can't wait to pick her up tonight.

Nice lit'l truck. Welcome to MUD!

G'day all just joined up. Looks like a great community here at IH8MUD and not a boys club full of wannabes. Looking forward to so great chats. My wee beastie is a 2001 HDJ79R with the 1HD-FTE engine. I've done a few things to the engine and the truck itself I'll get some pics up as soon as I can.

Hi all, joined a few weeks ago, still learning the rules of the site. Hate to offend anyone first up.........I like to wait a while.

Anyway I purchased a 1985 Fj73(petrol) standard condition for its age apart from the obvious rust from beach use. Started pulling it apart 18 months ago for a little rust work and mechanical etc but got carried away.
Thinking of starting a thread re: the dismantle and remanufacture of the old girl as I have stepped it up and now put a deadline on completion which means I have to keep moving on it instead of months of inactivity.
I'm in way over my head and being a cabinetmaker/joiner I'm worried I'll use too many zinc yellow coarse thread chipboard screws..lol

Hello everyone. I'm writing from McCall Idaho, where I use my 1990 LJ78 EXT on my rural mail route. The RHD is very handy, and I get a lot of thumbs up from ranchers and locals who have an old 45 in the yard, or have fond memories of one.

I brought mine down from Revelstoke BC about a month ago. It has 185km, and supposedly has had at least one head replacement, now a 3.0 L. But I am really not sure about that. The EGR pipe from the EGR valve was blocked off, and the vacuum pipe blocked off, and I rerouted the rest of the vacuum lines per the excellent advice on this site. Much less smoke and cold start issues now. All the coolant leaks were fixed with a pressure check. The prior owner kept some maintenance records. It has received frequent oil changes, a new brake job, and handles well.

I did the ECU frontal lobotomy trick, and I think I will do it again now that I have changed the fuel filter and air filter (now a K&N) and closed off air and oil leaks from the turbo, plus a new valve cover gasket. I have yet to spring for the exhaust gas temp gauge. The wife is wondering when I will stop. A couple of pics. Note the great little trailer hitch bracket that fits on the burly box cross member of back bumper. Plenty for the super light canoe trailer I might pull. 350 lbs max weight.
