If you are trying to save money, I would go cheap on the rear rotors and not the front. If the rotors go bad in a short amount of time, replacing the rear rotors is a quick and easy job. Replacing the front rotors is a lot more in depth and time consuming job. While not difficult in a technical manner; to me changing the front rotors is a PITA rather than just a simple brake job.

Yes, it is a good idea.

Rotors can warp from improper storage, not to mention the freshly machined surface will develop a better wear pattern with the pads.
 
I have never, not once ever, had a rotor machined before use. It isn't necessary and shortens the life of your rotor. Just clean off the preservative oil/wax well and install.

BTW-Even though I have used Brembos recently, and they were made in Italy with decent machining, I would recommend OEM where possible. I used the Brembos because I could get them that day when I was working on the brakes and did not want to wait for a package from Cruiserdan.

I get a discount on NAPA through work, and it took two sets of the premium rotors before I bought a set of OEM from Cdan, they warp at about 5-10k miles. Do buy a caliper rebuild kit, it's not that hard to do and saves much over rebuilt calipers.
 
And also remember that you can use your AAA card for a 10% (usually) discount.

Negative. I would not machine new (or used) rotors. If the rotor is out of spec, get a new set.

ATM 0942483 = Altrom - Reboxed OEM, similar to Beck/Arnley

in these pics, it shows that the NB's are made in CANADA, printed on the rotor

The NAPA import rotors are sold in two categories
NB 4886386 = Off shore/Chinese
ATM 0942483 = Altrom - Reboxed OEM, similar to Beck/Arnley

I just bought some seals for another vehicle and their p/ns began with ATM xxxx. As stated above, they're made by Altrom Group in Japan.

Another interesting thing is that I bought a wheel bearing for the same vehicle and the p/n for it was ATM 2123003. It turned out to be a Koyo bearing and the least costly on their website!!

FYI.
 
NB on NAPA brake items typically reflects items made by Raybestos/Brake Parts Corp/United/Affinia Group etc... This group makes at least three grades of rotors/drums/friction material. At $36 each, they are the el cheapo deluxe line.

Altrom has become a big player lately in the wholesale/jobber parts distribution arena. They are a direct competitor with Beck Arnley. NAPA & Carquest have jumped on board with them in order to supply higher quality replacement parts that are on par with their domestic vehicle parts lines. Altrom courts the business of the foreign OEM suppliers and reboxes what are essentially OEM parts.
