Hey members, due to my stuck calipers I'll be ordering remanufactured calipers from Napa. I also checked on the rotors and it turns out they have rotors for $36!!! They're Napa house brand...not sure if anyone tried them. If you have, please comment. Not sure why they are so cheap in comparison to OEM at $100 each. Hope they can hold up to the OEM calipers. TIA

That's no surprise. What surprises me is how many are afraid to use them. When I did the front axle, I replaced mine with rotors from another parts store for about the same$ and some non-OEM ceramic pads. Bled everything well and I'm quite impressed. Stops better than originals from 70MPH. New tires grip enough on dry pavement to keep ABS from doing much, but make sure and empty the back of the truck b4 you test them... 3 months on truck now and no fade or other problems. I understand the OEM argument and some will never be swayed if that's your cup of tea. Will this stuff last as long? (reliability) For a quarter of the cost, lifetime warranties, and easy as hell to change them, why would you care on these wear-out items?

BTW if NAPA would have stocked them here, I would have gone with them instead of the other guys, but they didn't even have the pads....

<deleted> - I misread and thought rotors not calipers...

I think he said reman calipers. Rotors are new.

The NAPA import rotors are sold in two categories
NB 4886386 = Off shore/Chinese
ATM 0942483 = Altrom - Reboxed OEM, similar to Beck/Arnley

Sorry for the confusion, I'm getting Napa remanufactured calipers (which are OEM) and going with their house brand rotors. Can't beat the price of the rotors!

in the group's opinion, do new rotors need to be machined prior to installation? I have heard it is a good idea.

The cheap rotors at Napa are the usual junk from China. They will work OK at first, but don't expect them to last and stay reasonably straight. The Upgraded rotors are significantly better-I got Brembos at Napa for about double the price of the Chinese ones. I have previously run 2 sets of the Chinese rotors, and they seem to warp far too easily.

Front Brake Disc parts for 1994 Toyota - Bma Auto Parts

These fellows have the Brembo's for $63. I have used them and the OP model too. I think I liked the OP better, surprisingly. Patrick and Yves there are great fellows and will get you the best price they can manage. I found that calling directly got better prices than the site.

I agree, all of my brake parts for all of my vehicles come from BMA as well. Good to know about the competitive price by calling them, I've never actually spoke to them before  Additionally, their occasional sale prices and free shipping over $50 is really great.

BMA is really good on lots of stuff, but for OEM Yota, CDan is the guy. They will admit they can't do better. Plus CDan has the inventory on hand, and LOTS of know-how !!!

For aftermarket parts, BMA does pretty well. I used them a lot with my BMW.

Are the Brembo rotors any good on our trucks? I know it's a big name, but did they just slap it onto outsourced rotor?

I didn't find the Brembo to the be super high quality I know of their products for other applications. I used them for one set of brakes, and then I think I went back to Toyota. They are certainly not bad, but don't expect them to be like those rotors produced for super high end applications.

Call BMA and ask for Patrick or Yves, and ask them what they think. They will be honest with you.

My original rotors lasted for 175K miles:cheers: (probably pretty thin) because I never turn them. I know not turning them probably cost me some pad life, but they conform pretty quickly, and pads are cheap and EASY.

I knew it was time to pack the wheel bearings (and it was when I got in there:whoops:) so bought rotors from ORiley. They were not very expensive, and were Brembo. I have had them on for about 50k miles and have no complaints at all. I was not aware of differing quality with the upscale products, but that makes sense.

A month ago I replaced all four wheels brake pads, bled it all, and have great brakes.

As an asside, I had a rear brake caliper slide pin get corroded (lost the little rubber plug somewhere), and caused uneven wear on the rear pads, but once that was cleaned up, it woked fine.

Keep in mind, even Brembo makes a cheap rotor. While Brembo may have a name as a supplier to high end cars, most of what we see here in the US is standard, sold on price, auto parts. I'm not sure of anyone else's OEM prices, but for comparision, I sell OEM rotors for about $77/ea and OEM reman calipers for around $75/ea. To me, spending $77 vs $36 on a rotor is dirt cheap insurance that my 6000lb+ vehicle is going to stop.

That's where I finally came out on all that ! Like you say, brakes are probably not the best place to be trying to save a dollar.

Like the man said, "Steering and Brakes are required, all else is optional ! "
