Man, that does look good! I know it feels better, when you get some paint on stuff.

Have you given some thought on what color, you're going with.

As for color, I know I'm not going to go old-school orginal colors. I like the old school likes with more modern colors (repeat of my fj40 build). My son's begging me to stay with a two-tone but I'm not sure I'm on board.

One color I think I like is the 2011 FJ cruiser trail team special edition army green. At least that way, I'd be keeping with the Toyota family.

Somehow I'm stuck in a green mode. The other options are Ford's Forest Green Metallic and Jeep's Natural Green Pearl.

The general theme will be black bumpers and wheels and a solid color on the body most likely (although these wouldn't look too bad with a beige or sand dune two-tone.)

I open to ideas and suggestion also.

Color is a very personal thing. If the color isn't right, for you, then you're not going to like the whole truck. That said, I like the two tone, but doesn't have to be original colors.

Good luck, harder picking colors, than Presidents. :)

No J**p colors, go with FJC color, either with factory scheme or w/ white roof cap.

I figured the J**p color would raise issues of heresy.

And.... the body is back from blasting

Blasting revealed a few areas that are going to be more work than I originally thought, but better to know than be disappointed later by bubbling paint.

I thought I had near perfect rocker panels... I was wrong - I'll at least have to redo the passenger side. I've got pin holes on the back quarters so that will need cut out and a few areas on the roof line. An the driver's floor.

I was able to get it all primed last night and still able to get some sleep to get up early and go deer hunting. (I bet the deer smelled the paint residue... I saw absolutely nothing).

NikP,

That body is like brand new, compared to what some have to start with. You're right, now is the time to fix and weld up all the unused holes PO's put in them. I found a ton of them, things I wouldn't be needing anymore. It goes along way, keeping out the elements.

What's your thoughts on repairing the rockers. Cut them totally off or just patch the rust.

I'm thinking only the passenger side rocker needs replaced. I'm thinking about cutting some holes on the interior of the driver's side rocker to allow access to spray some converter and then maybe spray raptor liner inside the rocker space with a rubber hose one the end of the gun. I want to drill holes that I can put a rubber plug I to when I'm done or maybe even weld them shut.

The passenger side needs redone. I'm thinking I can form some sheet metal to replace the lower third. Shouldn't be too difficult. (Easy to say now wait til I get it opened up and I may regret those words.)

I loaded up the body and frame to bring home and put in the garage.

My fj40 had to get into the action by lending the winch to roll everything off the trailer.

NikP,

Nice to have the equipment handy, makes the job alot easier. It's going to be interesting to see what's in the rockers, when you open them up. Most of the guys find all kinds of " stuff ".

Good luck, Ron

I found time to go deer hunting with my daughter this morning and then got home and spent time cutting out rust spots. I hate rust! I opened up the passenger side rocker. Full of rust and dirt. Based on what I see I'm going to cut open the driver's side and re-skin it. I don't see any rust spots like I did on the passenger side but I know it's only a matter of time.

I should just order a set of floor pans from BobM but I hate to part with my $$$$. If I valued my time then I'd realize his pans are a good deal. That said, I decided my time had little value so I set out to make me a set. I had to improvise a bit to create the ribbing but nothing a little red-neck engineering couldn't solve.

I figure by the time they're welded in they should be just fine.

Nik, looking good, If time runs out let me know.

Thanks Bob.

Got a little shop time. I bent up some rocker panel skins and did a bit of fabrication for rusted out areas.

So here a few more pictures of the reconstruction of the passenger rear fender panel.

First picture is the starting point. From there I built an inner fender piece, then fit the outer skin - tacked it in place just to piece things together. There's a gap because you'll see in the next set of pictures the piece I bent up to fill the gap and continue the fender body line.

As part of the final assembly, i took my cut off wheel and ran it down the seams to create but joints rather than the overlap shown in picture 3.

Picture 1 is the piece I bent to continue the fender's line and to wrap around the inner fender i just built.

Then a little bending, cutting, tacking and mostly a final product.

Forgive the welds. I should have removed the primer from the body panel but I got impatient.
