Is that conduit you used for the tubing? If so, looks like you used threaded rod to get a better bite and strength for your weld. Is it pretty strong ang rigid?
Yep
1/2" EMT electrical conduit
I made my roof rack out of the same stuff in 1" years ago
I used the threaded rod to hold the pieces together and leave an 1/8" gap between the joints so I can weld on the threaded rod itself and not leave it floating in the tubing.
This makes it easy to keep the welds uniform around the tubing and the beads flush so there's minimal grinding (I hate grinding)
The end result is solid enough to jump up and down on
You never have to worry about it rusting due to the coating
The only drawback is that welding on galvy is the devil
Fumes are a killer!!![]()
Nice, i saw you used it on your rack. I like that idea, due to material cost and bending. Did used a regular manual conduit bender?
These is nothing like welding galvanized. I used to do it a lot in Hawaii, i love it when all that white crap starts floating around in the air when welding it.
I think you should rhino-line your rims...
Nice mate , lucky you have rear sliding windows so when your driving along one of your mate can jump in the back reach out the window and grab more beers![]()
I do have to ask though, where did you get the lisence plate surround?
