Looks great. I have always wanted to see how it look when you rocker guard the wheel arches only and dont go halfway up the fenders to follow the body lines. This is exactly how I wanted to do my 60 but did not know if it will look good. Now I know. Thanks.

Jebus, man - Your Summer looks like my Winter ! :D

-40* F !!! And I complain about working outside in +50 F

Nice work. Truck looks great!

Fourrunner, thanks for the contributions to the build! You have some quality stuff!

Tango71, I never liked the look of liner following the boday line up on the front fender, so this worked for me. Honestly, I'll probably end up sanding it all down at some point and re-painting the whole truck minus any liner.

Spike, I'll be honest and say that when it hits -30 or colder I start thinking really hard about moving to SoCal. lol I'll start a migration pattern following the birds outta here someday.

In my next life I'm going to come back with at least some of your skill but in the interim I'm very glad that the '60 went to the exact right family. I'd like to take credit for the condition of the vehicle up to that point but I actually didn't know about stuff like the oil gallery issue at all.

I bought the truck from a buddy in CA in 2004 that had just gotten in a head on m/c wreck over a jump and was completely broken up... to the point that he wouldn't be able to drive the '60 for months. I shipped it up in part because I always wanted a '60 and in part because I wanted to teach my daughters to drive in a vehicle that was manual / carb'd / roll up windows / solid as a brick, etc. There's something about a fully manual vehicle that I think allows a learner to better understand the whole driving experience. My daughters are both far better drivers than the girls they knew growing up and I think a big chunk of that they got from driving that FJ60. A little chunk might have been our Saturday driving practice, too... like backing into every parking spot at one of the Chugach State Park lots or one of the smaller schools. It made them better drivers for sure.

Here are a couple pics from that truck's past that you might like. Sorry about not being able to tell you much about mods to it, etc. as mechanical stuff has always been a big slice of voodoo for me. I can understand the systems but translating that to actually spinning wrenches to fix them? Well, I've always been aware that others do it better than I and so for the most part I leave that to them. Here are a couple other pics and please tell your wife that Pam and I said hi. We'll send a few fahrenheits your way soon.

On another note, I'd love to have that heater we talked about. I'll restore it and stuff it under the dash on the passenger side of the FJ45 SWB. It's been around 5 to 10 below here at the house for much of the last week and that little Mojave heater that's in it is a complete joke at those temps. It move a lot of air but it's all cold !

Alright if I have an Anchorage friend come up next week and pick it up from your work?

Pics of the truck taken the week you bought it.

Pics of the truck taken prior at random:

And a sliver of it on the far right during a bbq at the house a few years back. I thought I had more pics of it but it looks like an hdd crash or two must have wiped out most of what I had. Enjoy the truck, Travis, and it's very cool to see that you're taking such good care of it!

Thanks for the props legion, but I'm sure you could hang with most in the wrenching department. I should have made it clear that you weren't the po that fixed the oil galley. lol The truck was in very good condition in comparison to any of the 60's I've owned in the past and it's a real head turner. I'll be the first to say that I'm happy to own a 60 that's not a rust bucket. It was a pleasure buying the 60 from y'all, and I'm sure it will be the rig that my kids will learn to drive with too.

As far as the heater, Im glad you can find a use for it. It's a beast. I'll PM you my work address.

Finshed up the airbox mod for the snorkel this weekend!
Being as the intake for a stock US spec FJ-60 is on the driver's side and the snorkel intake is on the passenger side, I had to figure out something. I've seen a few guys running FJ-62 canisters, but I had an extra FJ-60 airbox, so I hacked off the OEM intake and welded the hole shut with scrap metal. I found a piece of 3" exhaust pipe and flatened it out on the airbox side a bit and welded it in. Doing it this way loses the intake heat riser, so we'll see how it does in the cold. If I don't like it, I can always figure something else out. We don't (currently) have smog police up here otherwise it obviously would not pass smog, but I can always bolt the original intake setup back on the rig.
Overall it turned out okay, but not perfect, so don't look too close. I used seam sealer on all the inside joints, and painted everything. These type of projects allways take longer than I figured. I probably have 10 hours into the bugger, but at least it kept me from Black Friday shopping!:bounce:

Alright, fill us in. How did you do that? That is high on the future mod list for me.

I probably should have taken pics during the process, but I got too caught up in just getting it done. Really it isn't too difficult as long as you have access to some basic metal working tools and a welder.
All I did was:
drill out the spot welds to the original air horn,
cut and fit some sheet metal to the hole the the air horn left,
shape one end of a 3x12" piece of exaust pipe so it will fit inside the airbox,
cut a hole in the airbox carefully matching the flatened end,
weld the pipe to the airbox,
seal and paint everything
and hook it all back up.

I haven't run it yet with the new airbox, so I'll post my review of it later.

That is a good looking cruiser. If I get up that way I would love to stop by and take a look.

Feel free to stop by! Talking Cruisers is what I do best!;)
Looks great! I like the airbox fab too.

get the radiator fixed yet?

Thanks! I put in a new radiator a couple of weeks after I got the 60 home. That thing was leaking from about 6 different places. Not cool.

Your Cruiser is coming along nicely, really liked how clean your snorkel install turned out, that is exactly how we seal up the 60 series airbox for the snorkel install. Great job! Thanks again for the AAL order.

The airbox looks nice.
I might copy that in the future.

Thanks, I saw the same mod somewhere on mud once, so let the copying carry on! ;)
