Went and did a beach run with some friends this weekend.

It’s been a good last few weeks. We’re headed to big bend tomorrow.

The truck has been leak free since I did the side cover gasket but today we dipped into the 30’s and I saw two spots from the power steering pump.

$360 later I’ve got an OEM pump coming my way. Between that and the trollhole carb getting taken off due to defects and a new cityracer on the way, I’ve had an expensive week.

I think my last air bubble from the cooling system on the 3 hour trip up here. Things are going well.

We made it to outside the park in big bend. The truck is doing great aside from some bushings that maybe need grease on the leafs. I refuse to buy a grease gun on the road. It can wait.

We did 1500 miles in 4 days going back and forth to big bend. The truck did flawlessly and we had a blast. I expected something to wrong and it didn’t.

The wife loves the truck. Mission completed.

Next up, cityracer carb because the trollhole is a doorstop now and also the truck is getting an OEM power steering pump. 300,000 miles of use with it leaking for about the last 100,000 is enough to justify the expense.

I’m also trying to decide on what battery i want for the second battery.

SLI27AGMDPM - X2Power Premium AGM Dual Purpose (Starting/Cycling) Battery for Deep Cycle BCI Group 27M Marine and Boat at Batteries Plus Bulbs

This is on the spendy side, but is really bomber. Made in the US and carries a 4 year replacement warranty. They make another model that doesn't have the additional attatchment points and costs a little less.

That’s a good option. I like the versatility that some of the Duracell batteries have to be both starting and deep cycle.

I have no idea. I purchased from Boch Toyota. Just went with the cheapest online vendor. Any oem parts I find that may be of use are getting stashed. @mongoose2231

I'm going back to them for the $142 pulley and the $2 woodruff key. A hard pill to swallow but still better than not being able to drive the truck.

Have you attempted to remove your old pulley yet? I did one recently where the pulley came off the pump so easily I was dumbfounded. Just removed the bolt and it slid right off.

That would be amazing. Nothing ever works for me, this might be my day.

Yeah, even though I'd had my pump on and off a number of times over the years I'd never attempted removing the pulley just assuming it would be a pain. Most recently I figured I'd give it a shot, now I'm kicking my self because it's so much easier to get the pump mount on and off without the pulley. For a 3FE at least.

I’ve been driving it and things have been relatively uneventful.

Just chasing leaks and noises, which I’m running out of surprisingly.

I found an exhaust leak that I’ve been hearing. I swapped the gasket first and then while it warmed up, I felt a leak that seems to be coming from a weld up there. It’s in the space that is highlighted in yellow.

I’m trying to decide if I want to just get the welder in there and spray wire til the crack is covered or cut the pipe where the cat would have been and make the whole section removeable.

That is so clean compared to mine. Holy moly. Some really bad welder clearly did mine. Shouldn’t be hard to seal that!

Unfortunately it’s not mine. Just the only picture I could find. Nothing on my truck is that pretty.

I got the crack welded up and now its leaking from the mating surface of the flange to manifold.

I'm getting some extensions tomorrow to see if I can put some muscle into the 3 flange bolts from underneath. I don't think I've even started to compress the donut gasket.

Should I feel the gasket crush at all?

Pretty sure it doesn’t crush. The underside of the manifold has a wider diameter to let the gasket fit up into it. I’m quite sure I can find photos of mine on my computer to show you. And I wouldn’t go too crazy w/ extensions or you risk breaking one of those studs.

Yeah I dont remember feeling mine crush or anything, but had to put together a couple different extensions to get enough length to easily get at the bolts.
