I think half the reason my trip went so well last year was the insane level of obsessive planning and scheduling Chris and i put into it.

I've got a pretty good rough list going.

I'm also preparing to drop my rig off for paint and all of the pain in the ass that goes with that.

A dyno run is just masterbation. And to do it right, you needed to measure it before you did anything for a baseline. I wish I would've done mine day one and watched that 60hp get thrown down.

@Chungas Revenge - appreciate you (and others) looking out for me!! It is a goal not an absolute. Kind of like the dream you get when you buy a $2 dollar power ball and the bounty is 500M+ - the dreams one can have for 2 bucks.

All the rig really needs are...

• Good brakes (And I think mine are - just double check)
• shield on the fuel lines.
• lean drop the carb
• adjust valves
• I was planning on the knuckles/hubs & front diff anyway over the winter - new springs etc, not critical but do have the parts for the front
• Alignment - It will not align right now - think bearing in the front is bad - hence the knuckles got called up.
• & broken zerk in the center link
• Previously talked to Valley for a quote to rebuild TC/Transmission - I think my syncros are starting to go. That IS the rabbit hole - just a few dollars more = 5speed

Karl @sogncab, did you sleep between SAS registration and the event? I made a list (below) in my head last night and don't think I slept. I keep adding too since it was -20 this am and I don't want to go tinker with Yellr.

I made a to-do tab, bring along tab, and parts to buy tab on my spreadsheet.

I think I missed the mark with the humor. ^^^ My satire is running a little rich.

Truth be told, the day I joined MUD I went headlong into the abyss. In fact, I’m role playing my own version of Sisyphus, forever pushing the Mule uphill only to have the parking brake fail. Raise your hand if you’ve ever “waxed your charcoal canister”.

But, I‘m fortunate to have a MUD support group ridding shotgun during 2.0, acting as the voice of reason keeping me grounded and in check.

Like the words of that Reba song "Where were you when I could have loved you" I think you were lurking when @Jdc1 and I fell deep in the hole and started the 72. Chalk it up to we were noobs then. And look at where it has led. It's only a sickness if you acknowledge it or you have more than one and keep digging. I think we both meet the description. We do have to figure out our office space at RCLC so we can keep an eye on what's new and exciting.

Yeah, I’m a Yotahaulic. I dropped a few Benjamins last night on OEM bolts and some body mount parts, etc. Don’t want to get it all at a once. Then what would I do? Looking at parts to me would be looking at porn to others.

Come on down, anytime. Another option is that I’m typically at my land for the summer in the mountains of northern New Mexico. Mountain trout and 10’s of thousands of acres of state land to explore within a couple miles.

I too have a 3 speed to 4 speed conversion with rebuilt transfer case from Valley on the horizon. But waiting on @OlYellr to pave the way and fully document in painstaking detail the complete process.

And I will post my question to you here - Was talking to Karl yesterday and we were talking lockers etc. I like where you mounted your compressor for your lockers - Can you post a few more picts here on your location - I thinking imitation is a form of flattery, right

Ha! I'm trying to psych myself up for puling the trans/transfer. At times, it seems doable by myself, but then I stumble upon someone else's struggles and I re-think the whole endeavor. I suppose, however, that it is like a lot of things... part of the "fun" is the challenge of getting it all apart and put back together in good working order with minimal trips to the hospital.
The compressor mount is on a piece of 1/2" thick by 4" wide aluminum flat stock that is bolted to the frame with longer M12 SS tow hook bolts (the flat stock is under the tow hooks.) Since we don't have a winch, this was an option for mounting a shovel on the top. The decision to mount the compressor on the underside was driven mainly by not wanting to drill holes in body panels. Also, not really planning on hard core crawling so bashing it on boulders wasn't really a factor. I do recognize that the location isn't as ideal as perhaps in the engine compartment, but that option wasn't really something that my pea-sized brain could figure out.

Sort of on topic… how do you like the fog lights from a functionality standpoint? They look cool, but how much useful light do they put out?

I think that they are plenty bright. The most practical use here is driving on the beach during daylight not so much for driving visibility as for allowing other pedestrians and occasional vehicles to see me and hopefully avoid running into me. With the TC/Tran removal - I didn't document it well - OK at all - with pictures

I have the newer rig top cover design so it was 2+ person job as we didn't have the transmission holder some jacks have. IE Nolan

Older rigs with a larger top cover/opening can take the top cover off, wrap a chain to a cherry picker - slide out of the bell housing and lower it.

Got lucky to be able to use two screwdrivers to press and twist off the cap holing the shifter in place. Ordered the right tool from Racer and got it in time for putting back together. Removed the front drive shaft.

We had a strap (and someone inside the rig guiding it - and a person under with a floor jack on the TC/Tran & helping to guide the trans out of the clutch plate/bell housing. Once cleared - then lowered the jack and the straps helped make sure not rolled and damaged anything/body. The larger opening with the cover should afford a picker/chain setup making a 1 person job obtainable.

Going back together... the best thing was swiping @South Texas 97 idea in his thread about cutting some M12x1.25 bolts to put in bell housing so the transmission can track and slide on. I too, cut the bolt heads off with a dremel (I used 70 mm bolts I got from Ace) and then made a notch for a screwdriver to work in and out. saved a lot of lifting and getting it to go in. At one point - one person helping to guide and the other pushing it with feet. Those bolts were the best - could get it on the bolts and get the weight - then slide forward - remove one 70mm and put in real, rinse and repeat. Think ended up only using 2 70mm at the top of bell housing for a guide vs all 4.

South Texas has better pictures of his experience and I think he did it as a 1 person job.

And I will do a better job documenting the removal. At this point - swapping to 5 speed - which I would like as I do a lot of highway speed driving vs city - will be a bigger can of worms and $$ with only 28 weeks left. What is getting me is moving e brake to rear axle - sourcing that - I may as well convert rear disc brakes while at it.... Then I got to deal with the cross member. I may lie down to let this feeling pass. I thinking I am suddenly talking nonsense.

Since it is cold, salt on the road - now would be a good time to drop/ship/rebuild/do the ujoints etc, and put back together. Could maybe have it done around end of Feb and know driveline/TC/Trans all in good shape.
