Carb Fan required after desmog?

I've read this whole thread, printed the appropriate parts, ordered the bits I need, and will soon embark on a desmog to my 60.

Question on the carb fan though... the consensus appears to be that it's function is to reduce heat stress on the intake/exhaust manifolds after shut-down on a hot day. Also that it reduces the chances of vapor lock on a hot day. Makes sense I guess.

However, carbed 60's/62's in AU don't have carb fans. I've never been there...but I hear it's pretty hot. If "desmogged" 60's in AU don't have carb fans, then do NA 60's need them?

No Cruiser needs a carb fan. Or a PCV. or vacuum advance. Or an electric starter.

All are fluffy modern conveniences to make driving easier/smoother/better.

If the carb fan is doing no harm, then leave it alone.

I have noticed that my seldom driven fj60 evaporates the gas out of the carb pretty quick- partially due to the new formulation of fuel I suppose. If the carb fan helps it cool down a bit it might curb the evaporation and the subsequent longer cranking on starts... Just a thought
 
Is it possible to only remove the air rail, plug the holes, and still have the motor run properly?
 
Will running the distributor vent system without a gas filter cause the commonly discussed cap combustion? evaporated fuel traveling into dissy venting? my was damaged/hollowed and would light matches on start up. I checked hose routing several times and removed it all together and capped it for now for the sake of not destroying a cap or worse? Any help would be great so I can return my vent system to service.
 
The three prong vacuum source threaded into the intake manifold, near cyl #2 or #3. Mine was broken and there was a steel screen of some sort within. Possibly It has a different name or acronym? In one of the scematics posted seveal times it labled a gas filter? I used another source for that connection and had my problem with dizzy ventilation. Possible my VCV bad? I compared operation with another I had and both seemed to function the same. They could both be failed/ ruptured. My thoughts were if the gas filter media seperated fuel/ fumes from the VCV then operation without it could be my problem. Thanks for any input.

I used these a couple months ago - from page 15 of this thread. If I recall, they may be updated slightly or maybe different end numbers for different colors. No issues so far!

3mm - 5041K-22
6mm - 5041K-24

My truck went from not idling to idling without the choke and mileage went from 9.4 to 13.6.

VTV in dizzy advance line...

During a desmog, this is removed...what was the original purpose, and why is now removeable with a desmog.?

Primary versus secondary dizzy advance

At sea level, with a "HAC less" desmog, it seems that some run the secondary versus the primary dizzy advance port to the carb advancer port.

What is the determining criteria...pinging?

The VTV slows the application of vacuum advance, preventing a sudden rise in cyclinder pressure (power) which can cause NOx emissions.

Yes.

Some trucks have more compression, or a leaky vac advancer or a worn governor pin in the dissy, or better fuel (local regs)... So, it's up to the technician to test drive & determine what the best setup is.
