Just thought i'd post that this thread plus the desmog diagrams made my desmog super super easy. Anyone considering doing this should definitely do it. Better MPG and throttle response. its kinda crazy.

How do you like the carb?

Since I've made so many changes, it's hard to isolate the impact of one component. However, there's no question the carb is the bigggest change. I had an exhaust leak, that's fixed. Valves were funky, now fixed. A few other little things all fixed. So, now everything appears to be functioning as it's supposed to...

...and the verdict is...it runs f'ing fantastic! Starts easily (though it's not really cold yet). Runs well even before it's warm. Idles well, accelerates smooth and strong...over 3K it's actually pretty strong, and it pulls hard all the way to redline. Sounds good too. I've run it to 4500 rpm a couple of times just because it sounds good, and to see what happens...it just keeps pulling hard, no issues.

Oh, and it's pretty!

Things I've Learned from JimC on another thread that needs to be on this one.

Running HEI dissy-- NO Tee coming off the PCV up to the airbox. No VCV on the passenger side. I capped the HIC and HAI as well.

These two things drastically improved the idling and mpg of the truck.

Picked up a better hose from BTUMAN. Fits perfect, seems pretty stout.

This thread rules.

Scored a carb cap from SOR. Reasonable price too. Using a 3FE air filter housing (FJ62) and a 1FZ canister top. Using cut down 2F intake hose as the cross-over.

Sounds familiar! Post up a pic!

Must look great! I'd like to see it as well.

In addition, I can't find these carb caps listed on the SOR website. Care to link?

Hope to get pics the weekend when I start the desmog part of this 2F.

For the carb hat, I got an SOR P/N from Joe_E and called SOR up.

Got here in a week. Fits the carb top perfectly.

More to come.

My plans in the near future are to desmog but at the moment I need some help....I replaced the valve cover gasket the other week so there for I removed vac lines....I put everything back together and when I started it up I heard a vac leak....it was easy to track down, it is the vac port on the bottom part of the thermostat....now I did not remove this so it may of popped off while working or it has always been open, cause I could not find the hose end that should of gone over it....can someone track it down for me and take a pic....it hasn't affected the drivability but I'm sure it hooks up to something....thanks for the help guys

were you going to come up with your own desmog write up? i'd like to follow it from scratch.

Negative. No reason to invent the wheel when all of the information is already here from smart folks like Jim C and the other contributors to this thread.

I will probably post my version but that's about it.

Keep the info flowing guys, I'm in the process of rebuilding right now, I'll post up in the 40 threads

I'd rather be fly fishing

On the firewall, inside, passenger side foot well. If yours still has it, there should be a rubber tube from the dissy cap to the engine side of the firewall.

AIR Pump Idler Pulley and Cap & Plug Set

Hey JimC! You got any of those AIR Pump Idler Pulleys and a Cap & Plug set? I'm trying to do a desmog on my '83 FJ60.

Jim,

Just sent money for Cap & Plug set via PP. Let me know when you get it.

Thanks,
BOFLC
