Do you have an Ohm meter to measure the resistance? Would be interesting to see what the difference between the two.

Where exactly does this go?

Can you measure the resistance of the two coils?

In theory you can use something like this below to fine tune the resistance and thus the time.

I usually bring my problems to our mechanical engineer at work. He's a car guy as well so he enjoys it and he speaks the electrical lingo.

I got around to painting my hubs and attempting to sand blast today. I did the lazy method of cleaning the hubs by letting them sit in vinegar for 4 days. After that I just cleaned them with a scour pad and they were ready for Por 15. In my attemp to blast the housing I blew a hole in two valves by leaving the valve 3/4 open so I only got about half way today.

I used the rotisserie method for applying the Por15

I got my Dakota Digital dash in. After doing some math I realized it was well worth the cost over fixing the dead oil pressure gauge and adding others that work better than the stock ones. Plus I wanted a accurate speedo and tach for when the wife drives it. Not having random gauges that look out of place also was in my mind when deciding.

So what is everyone's take on what I should set my odometer to on the Dakota Digital gauge? I will be coverting from kilometers to miles as well. Right now the odometer is at 61,700 but have no clue how many times it has rolled over. My guess would be twice.

It's hard to tell. I believe my '76 FJ40's odometer is correct at 64,355 miles based loosely on what I know of the most recent 20 years of its history. It was an unfinished project when I bought it from my brother-in-law's co-worker, and I've only put about 8,400 miles on it since I bought it 17 years ago.

That Tach will look so sexy there.

Bump. Let's see some parts porn Cimarron. :)
First thing when I get home. It will be a slow leisurely ride home since summer has hit here resulting in fun times taking the 40 to work.

Brake parts galore. I will start organizing parts for left and right in preparation for assembly next week. Still need to finished blasting and painting the axle housing this weekend.

More parts, mainly for hubs and third. I did have time to press in wheel studs and install new hub studs this past Sunday. They are ready for race and bearings now.

One of our boys has been sick the last few days and it was my turn to stay home from work with him today. This gave me a full day of finishing up blasting the axle housing and organizing my parts. I still need to wipe it down again and prep for paint this weekend.

I usually don't think ahead when tearing thing down but I did leave the old brake parts connected to the backing plate for a guide.

More prep for paint tomorrow. Removed third and degreased again. Found a few areas that blasting didn't get the grime off.

This mop bucket was the perfect fit to hold the third. Hoping it doesn't cave in.

Two coats of Por-15 done. Assembly will start tomorrow hopefully and figure out what additional parts I may need. I know I will be getting a new pinion flange.

I also had to make time to take the running boards off the wife's new 4wd. She is giving her Jetta back to VW as part of the scam buy back deal. Down a diesel but gaining a 4wd. I guess that is okay.

Today I got a lot done on the FF axle. Third installed, brake components installed minus the drums, and installed races in the hubs. Only thing left is grease up the bearings, install the hub and axle shafts. I will wait to install pinion flange until it's under the truck as it will be easier to torque it down.
I had a hell of a time trying to torque the drivers side backing plate bolts. The axle wanted to fall off the jack stands. In my attempt to put my left foot on the diff to hold it down and one hand on the backing plate I ended up slicing my thump. The blacking plate is sharp enough to do damage if not carefull. After that I had the wife come out and sit on the diff. It has been awhile since doing something stupid so I was do.

Housing ready to accept third.

Third installed.

Ratchet strap works perfect to hold everything in place nice and tight to make it easier to install the top spring.

Races going in.

Axle is ready to be swapped in. I still need to swap brake lines over or make new and adjust brakes but I'll wait until I get it underneath.

Just for pure joy I put a wheel on it to see how it looks.
