Pierps, I figured that one out on my own yesterday :( I need to contact the supplier tomorrow to figure out what to do. Maybe just a scuffing pad to ruff up the surface prior to hitting it with the other primer. I hope that it's that easy and that I can keep going with the paint. Guess I'll keep working on the rear axle to get it ready for paint.

Fantastic engine and drive train setup! Can't wait to see pics

WOW, WOW, WOW.....it's been a while since I've checked out the build and I must say the progress is really amazing. This is the real tedious work that bogs a lot of people down and you're just marching ahead like a pro. My hats off to you.
It's really starting to become a finished machine....

Hey, I have two questions for you:
1. Who is building your custom fuel tank? I'd like to get something made for my truck....the closer to home the better.
2. What locker are you thinking in the rear end?

Keep up the great work! I think there are a lot of followers who are very excited to see the finished product!

Hey Brent, thank you for the comments.

Trying to get it finish for the spring so that I can finally take a break. We bought a new travel trailer and all I want to do is go camping with my family next summer.

I'v got the guys at wicked garage out in Greely doing my tank. Not the cheapest but my only other options is to get one from the states. With shipping and getting it across the border I should break about even. This way I get what I want (it's a bit bigger then most aux fuel tank currently available) and also get to support a local shop.

No lockers planned for now. I'll run it open diff for now and see what I can do with the gearing and low end of the diesel motor. Worst case I'll have the winch in the front to get me out.

paint...

I am so tired but so happy that I finally got some paint on some of the parts. Still lots to do to get all done but... it's a start. Won't bore you with to much details I'll just show you some pics.

That sounds sick I love it

Kling-on, thank you for the comment on the color and the engine. Now if only I can get the paint done and the engine shoe horned into the engine bay, life will be good :)

The motor makes me want to pull my Vortec out

I just bought an FJ55 a month ago. Sounds like the drivetrain on my pig is exactly the same as what you're looking to run. The 6.2 you had built looks and sounds great on that Youtube video.

It's been go go go trying to get the 40 together. With only 4 1/2 months before the truck has to be done I think I'll be spending a lot time in the shop.

You guys have seen the post of the engine, now getting it to me has been another story. The owner has had some family issues and it has delayed the shipping. I'm hoping to go get it in Ogdensburg soon.

I did however get the 4L80e tranny fully rebuilt including a TCS torque converter http://www.tcsproducts.com/products/product/682/. The shop that did the tranny (Lentech out of Richmond, Ontario) even took the time to dyno test the tranny before I pick it up.

Also got a new 32 spline input shaft for the NP203 range box, so I took the time the pull the old one out, clean up and paint the case before I put it back together with new gasket and bearing.

Also got the frame fully painted and reassembled. Because I had completely separated the frame, I spent 9 hours yesterday bolting it all back together again with grade 8 hardware. Forgot to get a pic of it fully assembled, but do have a few pics of the backing plate I put on the inside of the frame to help support the rock sliders and also one of the bracket that supports the rear bumper The bumper fully assembled will have 10 1/2" grade bolts and 2 grade 5 carriage bolts holding it on to the frame so it should be nice and strong.

Also got the Monstliner on the bottom of most of the bed and also got the role cage painted.

With the help of a few fellow members of TNTLC (Bryan, Stephen, Kent & Andrew) and my buddy Guillaume, we took the time today to drop the body back on the frame and put the rollcage back into the body. Initially the plan was to put the drivetrain and other items into the frame before putting the body on but :princess: wanted to be able to put her car in the garage for the winter months, so to claim some brownie points I put the whole thing together (I also wanted some instant gratifications ;) )

Time for some rest, but I'll keep you guys update as I go.

Hey Kevin nice thread, like others have said, Wow, that has come a long way, I consider myself a patient man, but I think your patience must be 10 Times mine... I am sure it will all be worth it when that truck hits the road ( or you may be disapointed when completed,, and , you will need to start a new project ! )

Stephen, we will have to get yours all one color this summer...

Brian, not sure if its patience our being stubborn ;) One thing is for sure there will be another project but maybe not right away.

Got a few small things done this week. Got the frame, body and cage all bolted together.

Got my new fuel tank.

And finally got the engine and being really excited about getting it home, I had to drop into the frame. I still need to mock up a new cross member for the transmission but still need to wait to get the adapter back from the machine shop.

I will have to pull it back out again to finish the firewall. I will need to cut up the firewall a bit to make room for the custom driver side turbo exhaust. Also going to need a new heater...

DSCF7009_zps4e72c197.jpg

Also took the time to put in the old radiator and mount. Only about 2 1/2" separates the engine from the radiator. Looks like I'll have to come up with a way of moving the radiator forward to make room for a fan...

DSCF7007_zps6e869264.jpg

If you're not installing air con you can get about 1.5" more with the 79-84 grille, but I'm not sure whether the radiator will clear the headlight buckets on pre-79 grilles when moved up.

My friend in Australia moved his up to fit a 1hd-t into an 82 hj47.

Time flies when you're having fun...

Well with my deadline of end of April early May to get the 40 on the road, Im spending almost all free time in the shop.

The engine & tranny are in and self standing. Got the cross member complete.

DSCF7044_zpsa0129253.jpg

Also had to make a spacer to go between the 203 and 4l80e so I could get full length on the output shaft. So some 3/16" plate, some spacer and a gasket as template I got the 203 mounted.

The axles have been taken apart and the housing painted. The rear housing is installed and the fuel tank is in position, now I need to make the strapping to hold it in place and a skidplate.

DSCF7043_zps4368427d.jpg

A little 304 SS pipe later, my downpipe is tacked into place. Also got the shifters in place and I've started building the tranny hump. The sooner I can get the tranny hump done, the sooner I can get the last of the coating on the floor and the firewall. Not sure if the pics will show it well but I had to move the fuel pedal over 1" to clear the tranny hump. Hopefully I don't have to move the brake pedal to much.

Sarge, both of those things are on the to do list. I'll be putting a skid plate under the fuel cell and plan on bringing it to the rear bumper. I'll make sure to take the hitch receiver into consideration.

The down pipe and exhaust or my biggest problem right now. A heat shield will have to be made to protect the transmission, but I'm also going to spend a little money and get the down pipe ceramic coated to keep more heat in the pipe.
